Mark Wolf

What’s up everyone and welcome to another McInterview, this time with Mark Wolf. Mark, like myself, is a huge Nirvana fan, but unlike me, is a fantastic wrestler. Mark currently wrestles in IWA and is the IWA-MS Heavyweight Champion. Mark has put on great matches with Chris Hero and CM Punk in various promotions. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get your start in pro wrestling? What was your training like? Anything like Tough Enough? (I know the answer to the last part, it's just something I ask lol)

Mark Wolf: One of my childhood friends was Ian Rotten. All we ever wanted to do was become wrestlers. I gave up on my dream for a while, but got back in touch with Ian and here I am. Ian made an example out of me; he didn't want anyone to think I had it easy because we were friends. I'm better off because of it. Tough Enough, that’s funny...maybe like the one with Bob Holly only worse. I actually got hit, but I didn't cry. Other than that, I don't know. I try my best not to watch that show.

The MiC: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up? Least favorite?

Mark Wolf: That's tough. I liked so many. Don Muraco, Buzz Sawyer, Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair, Eddie Gilbert, Kevin Sullivan, Mark Lewin, too many to list really. I couldn't stand Hogan or Dusty.

The MiC: Out of all the promotions you have worked for, what are your favorites to work for? Least favorite?

Mark Wolf: Well I think I’m lucky to work for IWA-MS. So many people to learn from and so many different styles to learn. As for least, no comment. I might need another payday there sometime.

The MiC: You have held titles all over the place, most notably the IWA Heavyweight championship. How does it feel to know a promoter thinks you're the top guy for the spot, and puts you in main events and title matches?

Mark Wolf: I guess I really don't even think about it. I just try to go out there, work as hard as I can every match, and try to entertain the fans. I guess it feels good thinking about it, it shows they respect how hard you're working for them.

The MiC: From one huge Nirvana fan to another, what are your favorite Nirvana songs?

Mark Wolf: Wow, I could go on for a while on this one. I'll make it easy, the Unplugged CD is awesome top to bottom, and Lithium’s my favorite song.

The MiC: What have been your best matches so far, and what would you call your career highlight?

Mark Wolf: I think I’d have to go with some of the matches with Mitch Rider. I think the dog collar match for CCW in Evansville, IN was good. They've beat my brains in so bad, it’s hard to remember all the IWA-MS matches with him, but I think the Simply the Best 4 show had a good match. Hell I can't remember. Ask Hero; I have a hard time trying to remember whom I wrestled last week. But since we're on that subject, I think my match with Chris Hero on 6/7 for the IWA-MS Heavyweight title is the best match I’ve had.

The MiC: What has been one of the funnier things that happened to you while traveling on the road?

Mark Wolf: Well I did a show for the Bloody Midgets; it was in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. It was a biker rally, about 10,000 bikers. It was Nate Webb and myself there. Traveling with Nate has to be the funniest thing. But, I’d say 2 girls on a mechanical bull ranks right up there.

The MiC: Do you have any pre-match stipulations?

Mark Wolf: I write my grandfathers initials on my wrist tape, draw a smiley on there for a special friend who makes me smile, I say a little something to my grandfather as my music starts, then off to the ring. That's about it. Besides stretching and all.

The MiC: What indy promotions would you want to work for that you haven't worked for yet?

Mark Wolf: That's kind of tough. I'll go just about anywhere as long as I’m having fun. Hopefully some of my friends are on the show too. Like Hero, Punk, Prazak, Ace Steel, or someone I can hang out and have fun with. You know? I would like to go to Puerto Rico, if that counts.

Word Association

Chris Hero My best friend in the business. What a worker, he should get more hype than he does. Great guy. Sorry he has to put up with me being so moody sometimes.

CM Punk Much Punk love. Always welcome at WHIN. One of the best on the indy scene today. A great friend. I'll always have his back.

Dave Prazak Great guy, great on commentary, great ring announcer, and a great manager. He should have a J-O-B somewhere. Sooner or later, someone will figure that out.

IWA My home, much love to the IWA-MS fans.

Nirvana Greatest band ever.

Ian Rotten A good friend, I owe him everything for allowing me to live out a childhood dream. Without Ian, I don't know where I’d be.

Lucy Furr It's F8, fiveplay brother. Much love to Lucy Furr.

Lolipop Very nice. Always a pleasure to be around.

Ace Steel "Sexy" is probably THE most underrated wrestler in the country. Damn he's good. Great guy too. He needs to come to WHIN more.

Vince McMahon Wow. He killed the business we all love and so many people busted their butts to build.

Vince Russo eh

Working for NWA TNA It would be good exposure. Don't think it'll ever happen, I don't flip enough.

Working for WWE Never going to happen and it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Bastion Booger I actually met him on a show in Wisconsin. Very nice man.

Shawn Michaels Awesome. Everyone should watch the tag match; The Rockers vs. Rose & Somers

Raven The ECW stuff was great.

Mark Wolf Crazy, "but I’m having fun. I think I’m dumb. Maybe just happy”

The MiC: What are your short-term goals? Long-term goals?

Mark Wolf: Hopefully we will all just keep chugging away and make IWA-MS even bigger. It would be nice to maybe be part of turning it into a territory. Who knows? I'd like to get to Puerto Rico, that’s the last territory.

The MiC: What do you want to say to anyone reading this?

Mark Wolf: I'd just like to thank everyone. Without wrestling, who knows where the hell I’d be. Check out the site www.markwolfwrestling.com I try to add new pics to the photo albums twice a week, hit up the links and make sure you go to Hero, Punk, DP, and Lucy's sites too. Everyone should also check out the Vampiro shoot if you haven't already seen it. It's awesome. Thank you for having me do this interview and thanks to anyone who cares enough to read it. Last but not least, watch out for fiveplay. Them fiveplay is some crazy sons of bitches.
