Kenny Omega is not a name many people may know in the northeast area, but after September 8th, you might. Kenny Omega has
already made his name in Canada, where he is one of Canada's top stars. Omega's biggest claim to fame was wowing WWE scout
Johnny Ace at a Harley Race camp, which then in turn, led to a WWE developmental deal. Omega would go to Deep South Wrestling
and have to deal with Bill DeMott (who he affectionally refers to as DeFlop or DePlop) on a daily basis. Omega wouldn't last
too long in DSW, as he asked for his release and would return to the indy scene, with going to Japan being his major goal.
Omega, who is very outspoken, buries Bill DeMott in this interview, as he discusses alot of Deep South Wrestling's problems.
Omega also speaks about how Harley Race tried besmirching his good name, his past, the present & the future. Omega also talks
about his upcoming JAPW & PWS dates, which take place on 9/7 & 9/8. This is a very entertaining interview, and I hope you
enjoy reading it as much as I did conducting it.
Before going into the bulk of the interview, here's a quick highlight video of Kenny Omega:
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Thank you for your interview with DOI. For anyone that's
unfamiliar, please give us a general idea of what you're all about and what
fans can expect to see from you.
Kenny Omega: Most of the good press I receive is either due to my unique fighting style
or perfectly formed bubble ass. I can promise the loyal fans (homosexual
or not) that I'll display both of these character strengths on Sept 7 and 8.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You made your name in Canada and later ventured to the United
States. Can you explain the differences, if any, between American and
Canadian Wrestling? American and Canadian Beer? American Women and Canadian
Women?
Kenny Omega:
Certain areas are known for certain tendencies. Canada's main problem is its
lack of qualified trainers. We develop piss poor wrestlers.
America's main problem is a lack of gear suppliers since it seems that so
many wear reebok high-tops with jeans and t-shirt. Oh well.
As for beer...Well I don't drink so I guess I can say that I prefer
America's selection of "zero" products. I mean, there's Orange Crush zero,
Sprite zero, Dr. Pepper zero.......Where I live, there's only coke zero.
Women?...American women have a harder time tracking me down for child
support so I like that they're saving me the headache.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You were formerly employed by the WWE. The story the DOI has heard
was that you went to a Harley Race camp to be scouted by Japanese scouts,
due to Harley's great relationship in the Orient. At that same camp, Johnny
Ace of the WWE, as an unannounced guest, was also scouting talent. Harley
wanted his guys to get the most exposure and to get WWE contracts, but in
the end, you were the only one to receive a Deep South Wrestling try-out,
which led to a WWE developmental deal. Can you confirm this story and give
us exact details about what happened?
Kenny Omega:
This is a long, and probably interesting story but I'll give the point form
version.
-Johnny Ace did show up with the intent to give an honest look to everyone.
-Harley built up many of his guys to have limitless potential and expected
Ace to sign them on sight.
-Ace put me over as the only one to have an "it" factor. Kobashi-san was
also very impressed and encouraged Ace's signing.
-Harley gets angry. Harley tells his clique to rough me up in front of the
Japanese scouts and media.
-Harley struck a deal previous to the camp with Ryu Nakata to pre-select all
winners anyway, so he knew he could send who he wanted freely yo NOAH. WWE
was never in the bag but was his main goal.
-Upon hearing of my try-out, he called a meeting and said (in front of
everyone), that it was bullshit and my "it" factor had no substance over his
tried and tested method of training.
-Months later at his next show, he announced to Japanese media that I faked
my medical results and made false claims that I had aids and would be fired
by WWE immediately.
No joke, this is all true.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Did Harley Race hold any animosity against you since you got a
deal and none of his guys did off of that try-out? If so, how did it feel to
be disrespected by the former 8 time World Champion?
Kenny Omega:
It was very clear to me that there was animosity. This was upsetting, but I
understood afterwards that what he did was out of the love for his trainees.
To rig his camp and never give anyone a fair shot, however....The end result
is me not holding a grudge, but losing a lot of respect for Mr. Race.
Before Harley Race tried
putting the screws to Omega
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Obviously the Deep South Wrestling try-out went well, which is why
you received a developmental deal. Can you tell us how the try-out was for
you? Were you nervous? Was Hugh Morrus/Bill DeMott a dick right off the bat
like so many others have said he was?
Kenny Omega:
The try-out was difficult but there weren't any nerves upon realizing that I
was one of few that could complete all of the drills. Many of my fellow
classmates were out of shape and very impersonable - There wasn't a positive
atmosphere during training whatsoever. On the bright side, Bill treated me
very well during my try-out week.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: How did it feel when you were finally given the WWE deal? Was it a
boyhood dream come true, or was it just another job? Were you always a WWE
fan growing up?
Kenny Omega:
I saw it as a stepping stone to Japan and a way for name recognition once I
asked for my release. WWE wasn't a boyhood dream of mine since 1999. I
hadn't watched the product since 2001.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: So many people have came out and buried Deep South Wrestling,
mostly because of head trainer Bill DeMott. Can you tell us about "Walking
the Wall"?
Kenny Omega:
"walking the wall" was what Bill used as filler for when he was at a loss
for ideas. It was an easy way to kill time and a reason for his boys to lay
on the grass and do 10 improper crunches instead.
*Not only walking the wall - but any drill that seemed pointless or created
a risk of injury are what Bill loved to do during classes...Everyday....over
and over again...*
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: DOI sources have said that at times you'd make a big joke out of
practices in DSW. Can you elaborate on that and was it true? What were these
practices like?
Kenny Omega:
When morale was low, (which was always), I'd put myself out on a limb to
lighten the mood. This would result in laughter had by some and me sitting
outside by myself for 15 minutes.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You and Tommy Seude have similar styles and it was thought you
guys could have a good match together. How come that match never happened?
Do you think it was anything political?
Kenny Omega:
The match never happened because of a conflict of interest...DSW preached
old school and used its leverage on workers to change their styles and
brainwash their way of thinking.
Had our match happened, it could have comprimised everything DSW stood for -
Boring, repeatitive, non-sensical wrestling.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You were known for many ribs in DSW. Can you tell us about some of
the ribs you did? Is it true you wore Biohazard's skull mask, a sombrero,
and Mardigras beads around your neck, all while doing the Thriller dance?
What was DeMott's reaction to that stunt?
Kenny Omega:
That was one of the more happy memories and is right up there with the
entrance when Tommy Suede rode me to the ring like a horse (I crafted a
harness and everything).
DePlop's reaction was threatening a conference call with Johnny Ace and
Tommy Dreamer. Let's just say I was really scared......*note the sarcasm*
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Do you think Bill DeMott is a homosexual? Do you think he's
bi-polar? Is there any truth to the rumors that he'd watch guys changing in
the locker room?
Kenny Omega:
Although most of Bill's free time went towards eating McDonald's, I did find
it strange that he'd frequent the locker room once the penises were
unsheathed. I heard that one time when Eric Perez knew Bill was looking, he
started to get hard.
WORD ASSOCIATION
Bill DeMott - Loves to form alliances with bitches and followers. Likes to
lay on people during practice.
Dave Taylor - Great fundamentals and a great sense of humour
Greg Gagne - Huge love for wrestling and always willing to help people
learn. Best known for the "Son of a B" Punch
Quentin Michaels - the greatest closeted homosexual manager I've ever known.
Pathological liar and obsessive lover of up and coming indy wrestlers. I'm
not burying the guy, he makes me laugh more than anyone.
Nick Patrick - Gave great advice on how to act when working on TV and voiced
unbiased opinions on matches.
Tommy Suede - Great athlete and good friend. I owe him sushi one day. I hope
to have that singles match with him one day.
Chris Rombola - Evil genius with a freakish build for being all natural.
Another one of my DSW "buddies"
Johnny Ace - I hold the highest amount of respect for Johnny Ace after
giving me the opportunity that he did.
Kevin Matthews - An unbelievable friend that always came off as real when
the world around him was pushing for him to be fake.
Low Ki - A role model for any new generation wrestler. The best pound for
pound athlete with the greatest grasp on the "sport" and "fighting" element
of pro-wrestling. He's a believable warrior.
Shamus McCarthy - innovator of the unstoppable "Shamus Special"
Krissy Vaine - Sold out in order to live the developmental dream. Amazing
what $500 can do.
Great Khali - YAAAAH MAAAAN!!
Brian Majors - Nice guy, we worked well in the ring together.
Brett Majors - Not a great mini-golfer, has a problem with nerves, all in
all good guy.
AJ Styles - Unsurpassed ability in all facets of wrestling. An incredibly
fun opponent in the ring.
Taking on the former NWA
World Champion
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What are your thoughts about the Major Brothers collecting
wrestling figures and having wrestlers in the locker room autographing their
figures for them? Do you think there is anything wrong with that? Do you
think only in wrestling are wrestlers called "marks" for getting autographs
of their fellow wrestlers, when in other sports, such as baseball, it is
accepted. (For example, Bonds hits 756 or A-Rod hits 500, and they sign
bats/balls for everyone on the team and no one bats an eye, but if the Major
Brothers want the Boogeyman's autograph that is considered bad.)
Kenny Omega:
Well I look at it this way: Everyone has an inner child that refuses to grow
up. I mean, I still love TMNT and always will. Since I'll be in New York
soon, there's even a chance I might meet them too, so if that happens, you'd
better believe they're signing my action figures!!!!!
Only two remain...
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You are debuting in the northeast on 9/7 and 9/8, for PWS & JAPW
respectively. Do you know who you're wrestling yet?
Kenny Omega:
It's been advertised that I'll be wrestling Danny Demanto for PWS and an
unnamed opponent for JAPW. Regardless of who I wrestle, JAPW and the
northeast boasts an incredible talent pool that I'm very fortunate to work
with. I look forward to any one JAPW has to offer and will guarantee a great
match.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Have you heard any good Danny Demanto stories and can you tell us
what you know about him? Has he ever told you that he loves you like a
brother?
Kenny Omega:
I stumbled across a video of him falling off a ladder...
No story
accompanied, but I'd love to hear the real deal when I meet him. Things like
that happen, but I couldn't help but laugh since they had such funny music
clipped in with it. Other than that, I remember some blow job story where
the chick was picking curly Demanto pubes out of her mouth afterwards...It
all goes foggy after that, I was too horny to remember further details.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What can northeast fans expect from Kenny Omega?
Kenny Omega:
A fresh face and someone they will want to see return asap.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What are your future plans and career goals? Do you think you'd
ever go back to the WWE?
Kenny Omega:
Never say never, but my interest is to travel overseas and make the best out
of my PWS and JAPW opportunities.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Thank you for your time and good luck.
