J-Silva

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get your start in pro wrestling?
J- Silva: Well I was working out in a gym in NYC and I was wearing an old ECW shirt when this guy approached me and asked me if I liked wrestling and if I was interested in training. That guy was John curse formally of team Tazz. I went down to his school (Critical Mass In Hicksville) and started training and I loved it.... The rest is history.
The MiC: What was your training like, was it anything like Tough Enough?
J- Silva: When critical mass first opened up there was only a handful of us and It was in a karate school that did not even have a ring set up yet, we used to learn power bombs and back body drops on plain old karate pads on the hard floor. Ahh the good old days!! By the way the handful of guys were myself, Vendetta, Tyler Payne, Nuke, Dickie Rodz, and Maximilyin. There were a few more but they did not make it. I guess you could say that they were not "Tough Enough"
The MiC: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up? Least favorite?
J- Silva: Growing up I loved to watch the Big bad guys like Jesse Ventura, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage and Bam Bam Bigelow. For some reason as a kid I could never cheer or boo for Lex Luger. Now I tend to watch alot of old AWA stuff from the 80s, I just can’t stop watching guys like Nick Bockwinkle, Ox Baker, Mad Dog Vachon, Billy Graham and Buddy Rose.
The MiC: How is it working in the NYWC?
J- Silva: NYWC is my home away from home. I was on the very first show we did about 2 years ago in our training facility in Hicksville in front of about 10 people. Its so amazing how far we have all came in 2 short years. WE are all 1 big family at NYWC and I plan on being there for a long time. (Sorry Curse!! LOL)
The MiC: Who do you like working with? Who do you not like working with?
J- Silva: Anyone from the NYWC. Some Names that pop up real fast are RuStar, Johnny Ova, Dan Barry, Dickie Rodz, Vendetta and Tyler Payne. I do not like working with DANNY DEMANTO!!! SHOOT SHOOT!! Just kidding, there is no one that I do not like working with and I look forward to working new people.
The MiC: What has been your best match, and career highlight, for you so far?
J- Silva: Well I feel that my best match was a 3-way dance between myself, Dan Barry and Dickie Rodz. But alot of people are telling me that my last match against Vendetta from the NYWC show was my best. I have not seen either of them on tape, so I cannot tell yet. Career highlight would be getting to put the boots to Bam Bam Bigelow.
The MiC: What promotions have you worked for, and what promotions have you not worked for, but want to work for?
J- Silva: I have worked for USA Pro, Wrestling World Wide, QWA, New York Wrestling Connection, Long Island Championship Wrestling, APCW, HICW, and PWA. I will work for any Promotion that will give me an opportunity. All have been a pleasure to work for thus far. I am currently being booked on other shows, but waiting for definite confirmations before I list them here.
The MiC: What do you think about the current state of indy wrestling?
J- Silva: The current state of professional wrestling is probably very limited in my opinion. With WCW and ECW no longer existing, doors have closed for many wrestlers across the country, which isn't a positive thing. It hurts the business in a sense that it has put people out of a job. I think that Indy wrestling is the way to go now. I sometimes can’t stand to watch the product that is on TV.
The MiC: You are very good with a microphone, and sometimes even come out before shows to incite the fans. Who's idea was that, and how does it feel to be trusted to get the show/fans started?
J- Silva: Well I have to give my microphone credit to my hours spent watching old Jesse Ventura and Hulk Hogan promos. The Idea I actually got from Mr. Ooh La La, an amazing heel in ECWA. It feels good to know that someone trusts me enough to go out before the show and get the fans warmed up.
