Josh Deely

What up my fellow DOIaholics? Today “The MiC” went to one of the most controversial person in USA pro, in terms of creating message board heat, in the one Josh Deely. Many, including myself, have critiqued Josh’s ring work negatively, and this is a forum for him to get his word out and let the fans know what’s up. I thank Josh for doing this interview with me, and I learned a lot from this interview. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey” (From now known as “The MiC”:) How did you get into the business?
Josh Deely: It had always been a dream of mine as a child. Around Spring of 1999 I began training at a place many NY indy talents are familiar with...Arena Puerto Rico. I guess it was decent enough for a bare minimum education. After it shut down in Spring of 2001 I moved on to The Doghouse, which became my home away from home. Every single person to enter and exit that building I considered and still do consider family. I trained there until they closed where I have investigated a few more schools finally finding a new home at the USA Pro Wrestling Training center.
“The MiC”: What was your training like? Anything like Tough Enough?
Josh Deely: My training at Arena Puerto Rico was very lax...it was a much more structured setting when I arrived at the Doghouse. The Doghouse was a very supportive and educational location. You could have asked anyone and everyone you came across for advice or help. It was much more like a family than a school and I still feel the same way about each and everyone of the people I knew then.
“The MiC”: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up? Today in the major feds? The Indies?
Josh Deely: Growing up I was a huge fan of Hogan, Steamboat and Chris Adams. Nowadays I like Shane Helms, Misawa and the newest star Mr. America. In the indies I am a fan of Homicide, the DRS, Low Ki and Christopher Daniels.
“The MiC”: Many people have critiqued your ring work, myself included. What do you have to say to all the people who say you need to go back to training before you get in the ring?
Josh Deely: All I can really say is I believe the best way to improve is through both drills and repetition as well as in ring experience. I mean honestly ask any wrestler in the big leagues or the indies if they are fully trained and any one who says yes is a goddamn liar we are all students of the game and can only get better with practice.
“The MiC”: What do you think about message board posters who berate you, and make up false information about you on the board?
Josh Deely: I don't think about them at all that’s the point, I don’t have time in my life to banter endlessly with a bunch of lowbrow mudslingers who have nothing better to do with they time than sit in front of a computer and talk junk about me or any other wrestler, valet or otherwise for that matter.
“The MiC”: What is your relationship with Frank Goodman and USA pro?
Josh Deely: I have a very good working and personal relationship with Frank Goodman and the rest of the USA Pro Staff. They are a great bunch of guys who I always feel comfortable asking for advice or guidance. I foresee and wish only good things for USA Pro and myself in the future.
“The MiC”: Many fans do not like watching ticket seller matches, as the quality isn't on par with the other matches. What do you feel about ticket selling, and do you think it belongs in wrestling? For example, would it make sense for a guy to sell 1000 tickets to work a WWE show?
Josh Deely: Ticket selling was originally conceived as a way for up and comers to in a way pay back the company which helps them get themselves out there. I think it has more become a laughing stock more than anything else, which is totally wrong. The ticket sellers such as myself bust out asses not only to sell the tickets but also to try and entertain the fans as well. I am not a stupid person and I know the fans are going to root for their friends...or whomever the cretin sitting next to them is cheering for. As it pertains to the big leagues I could never see Brock or John Cena selling a thousand tickets to get on a show, so in that respect I think ticket selling should be re-examined, because perhaps if the tickets weren’t so expensive it would be easier to sell them.
“The MiC”: What has been your favorite match?
Josh Deely: My favorite match has to be the 6 Man with myself, Mr. Yellow and Danny Demanto vs. Prince Nana, Crazy Ivan and Southern Supremice. I think that my partners as well as my opponents brought out the best in me as well as introducing me to many new concepts such as the blistering West Ghana chop and chair shots, so all in all it was a great match as far as I was concerned.
“The MiC”: Who has been your favorite opponent?
Josh Deely: My favorite opponent has to be my former partner Mr. Yellow Joey Braggiol. We had a short lived but great run as a tag team, and we had one hell of a match in Elizabeth, NJ. I will be eternally grateful for his partnership as well as his performance as my opponent.
“The MiC”: What do you think about your ringwork?
Josh Deely: Like I said I'm a student of the game...I will continue to improve through time and experience. But I feel at this point that my ringwork is sufficient to help me develop at a faster pace than I have been previously.
“The MiC”: What do you think you bring to wrestling that no one else does?
Josh Deely: My unique personality both in the ring and the locker room, my personal drive to make myself and those against me look as great as is humanly possible while we are out there. Also, if I weren't here what else would these lowbrows do while waiting to go to work at White Castle.
“The MiC”: What do you think about the people who say you have a hunched back?
Josh Deely: I don't have anything to say to them except get a life and that goes for the stuff you say about me or any other worker, valet or any other factor to wrestling. And if you have witnessed this supposed Hunch it is probably because I’m looking down upon you as the worthless sacks of protoplasm that you are.
“The MiC”: What can we expect from Josh Deely at upcoming shows?
Josh Deely: You can expect a new Josh Deely, a Josh Deely with a new passion to not only better myself as well as others, but to prove the nay Sayers wrong and make them eat the largest plate of crow ever cooked up. But there will be a few surprises for the fans at this upcoming show.
“The MiC”: Have you had any contact about working other promotions outside of USA Pro Wrestling?
Josh Deely: Yes I have been in contact with Vigilante Pro Wrestling in New Jersey and a few other promotions I will not mention until I have something concrete to report.
“The MiC”: There has have been rumors of you debuting a vampire gimmick. Can you shed any light on this?
Josh Deely: I'd love to. This is a textbook example of some people taking something they overheard or eavesdropped on and blowing something totally out of proportion. The truth of the matter is I have the Malkavian clan sigil tattooed on my forearm (If you want to know what that is look it up on the Internet or just look at my forearm next time you people see me. I had been talking to a friend in the locker room and I had mentioned to them that it would be a novel idea to team with the great Gangrel and to be a vampire tag team. But it was only a fleeting idea in conversation. The fact of the matter is Big Daddy Blue Josh Deely will always be here and doesn't plan on changing who he is for quite sometime.
“The MiC”: What would be your dream match?
Josh Deely: My dream match would probably be in the old Survivor Series style with myself, The DRS and Christopher Daniels Vs Homicide, Low Life Louie, J Train and TOT (Laithon). I would dream of nothing better than to team with people I trust and respect in the wrestling scene and join them in a battle against some of the people who gave me a great deal of guidance and advice in my time.
“The MiC”: What are your career goals?
Josh Deely: I hope to make it to Japan and Mexico one day to show the rest of the wrestling world what Big Daddy Blue is all about. I would also like to be able to show all the people in my past and present that I had achieved my goal so Bugger off! Finally, I would like to bring some acclaim back to my high school as its first alumnus to become a well-known Professional wrestler... which is btw Townsend Harris High School.
“The MiC”: Where do you see yourself in the future?
Josh Deely: At this point I'm not too sure what the future holds for me. Hopefully I will become a better wrestler as well as a better human being. If it is in the cards for me to make a profession out of this I hope I can make proper use of my notoriety to make a difference in the life of the common man.
