Devious (DVS)

Team Target - Devious and Tekno Heat

Declaration of Independents: How did you get your start in professional wrestling and how old were you?

Devious: I saw wrestling on MNN, they had ads for wrestlers to come and join. I had a choice between UWL and WTF. I didn't know which fed to go to. I went to WTF and it was ok, UWL was like the WCW in 1996 so I went there. They was more of a challenge. Miguel Perez Jr. gave me a chance even though I was 14 years old at the time but I lied and told them I was 16. There I meet Laithon, J-Train, Manslaughter, Mike Tobin and Bobby Lombardi. After meeting people I found myself in the HOUSE of Hardcore a few months later.

DOI: When did you think of the idea of starting your own fed?

Devious: Since it was hard keeping up with the older dudes and playing High School basketball, I had no time for wrestling. Since I found out that you had to be 18 to really do something in wrestling I put it on the back burner and played Ball. I had an itch for wrestling since I couldn’t go wrestle I brought it to me. I decided to teach people what I learned. There were a lot of people that wanted to know what I knew so I started my own fed.

DOI: How did you come up with the name Target Championship Wrestling?

Devious: Well it started out as TONY's Championship wrestling named after a Gym where we held our matches. Since we were the hottest fed in there and it closed down for the summer I needed to come up with a different name. I said we were the Target of everybody's dream to become a wrestler.

DOI: Name some of the people that were involved in TCW that some people may know today?

Devious: DOI's Mike Zevon, Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz, Johnny "Bison" Bravado, All Money Is Legal, DOI's Marc "Motivator" Adler, Tekno Heat and DOI's Joel Grayson.

DOI: Well thank you for mentioning me and some of the other DOI boys. We are here today because you allowed us to work with you and gave us a foot in the door. For that we are very grateful.

DOI: For those who do not know, you were a driving force in bringing a number of feds together in The Doghouse to form a new federation called Sports Entertainment Xplosion that wound up defunct. Your leadership was one of the main reasons it lasted as long as it did. Do you have anything to say regarding that experience?

Devious: Hell yes! It would've still been around if people didn't have egos and had experience. We had all the makings of a great Indy fed, there was too many young people involved. I had so much fun during the SEX days. We had older guys mad and jealous we was making a big impact. Everybody stepped their game up during SEX and have 5 more steps since then. Shout out to all my SEX niggaz.

DOI: I agree 100%. Maybe one day in the future something can transpire…but back to you big fella…

DOI: Who were your inspirations growing up?

Devious: All kidz of the 80's marked for Hogan, I loved KoKo B. Ware, Nikita Koloff, Ron Simmons, Tony Atlas, Ricky Steamboat, Sting, 2 Cold Scorpio and The Great Muta.

DOI: You are currently teaming with Tekno Heat as Team Target. When did the team come together?

Devious: There were many people who started out with us in TCW and as time went on they dropped off like Flies. There was 3 other guys who stuck close like family. (AMIL and Tekno) We all started forming ourselves backstage as Team Target. Me and Tekno was being put in Tag matches with other people. We decided going to start teaming plus Amanda Violet was managing me and AMIL thus bringing the family together on screen.

DOI: Who designed the outfits for Team Target?

Devious: I did that. I am a man of many talents. Me and Kaoz said that we gonna open up our own shop after we retire so look out for that in 20 years.

DOI: And you have done a lot more then just designed outfits in professional wrestling, we will talk about that in a few minutes.

DOI: Do you enjoy working singles or tag team wrestling more?

Devious: They are both kind of equal but tag team is doing it for me right now. Its more sequenced and has more flavor than singles. Matching outfits more styles in one match make it hotter.

DOI: You have impacted a number of workers that came out of the Doghouse. How do you feel knowing you are responsible for so many people being involved in the business?

Devious: It feels good only because I know what I did to help people out. It sucks cuz I don’t get credit from people who should give me my due. I should've been in the first issue. I’m never gonna cry but when its my turn I will let the whole world know the truth. I bet people don’t know that a fag can do a moonsault or a horned devil learned how to land on his feet cuz of me. Its cool but I wish some of those people would mention me in the interviews or help me with some bookings. Lord knows I need to be seen now.

DOI: I have to agree with the point about being in the first issue. If not the first but at least sooner. Same with AMIL, Wrecka, Tekno Heat and some of the other boys. Its something I have realized and regret now.

DOI: Do you have any favorite moments that happened in The Doghouse you would like to share with us?

Devious: The match I had with J-Train last year. The was the funniest match I had in my career so far. We was killing each other and had a slap boxing match on the outside. The 8 man tags they used to put the TCW/SEX guys in and we shined bright. I was like the Rudy Boy Gonzalez for a minute we took over in a few months. The love that everybody had was ill, the respect and the hard training. I miss the Doghouse. Thanx BOBBY!

DOI: I miss it too. Those Saturday afternoons were fantastic and a ton of fun. BiG TiMe TaLeNT/Black Star Power – I took you guys to the top dammit! Lol j/k

DOI: What was the highlight of your career so far and what has been a low light?

Devious: Making my debut USA PRO Debut in the Elks lodge. I was in a LIWF Battle royal there but it didn't have the history it had now. The same thing was my low light cuz I had 2 minutes in the ring and it was one of the first shows my family came to.

DOI: That’s one of those bittersweet things. Where you are so happy to get the opportunity but not satisfied with it at the same time. If I can say this and you know it already – sometimes you need a little luck – and good luck is when preparation meets opportunity. You and Tekno have prepared yourselves and opportunity is knocking. I predict big things for you guys.

DOI: Who do you see as the future of professional wrestling outside of yourself of course?

Devious: TEAM TARGET! And big niggaz that can fly! There are a few of us that can do it. Everybody from the Doghouse is only getting bigger and taking over more territory. We are the future!

DOI: You have been involved in wrestling for so many years now and not just as a wrestler. Do you see yourself getting involved in wrestling from other perspectives such as promoting or booking in the future?

Devious: Yeah I loved doing that I had some of the most innovative ideas for matches, gimmicks and other business stuff. Now I’m concentrating on wrestling now. The other stuff can take up a lot of time and effort. When I retire I will do a lot of things in wrestling behind the scenes.

DOI: I can confirm you are one of the more innovative thinkers on the Indy scene today. I think you would be a major success once you decided to take that route.

DOI: You have worked in other feds all up and down the Northeast. What feds have you worked for so far?

Devious: PCW, NEWA, USA-Pro, ICW, LIWF/DPW, JAPW, PWA and WXW.

DOI: Any that you enjoyed more then others and any that you disliked?

Devious: DPW was the home fed so of course that was the best. The rest is all the same none of them sticks out as being good. They all have there downs so hopefully besides being there I will have more good things to say about them.

DOI: You have a vast array of moves in your arsenal. Tell us about some of your finishers.

Devious: You will have to see some of them to figure which is which. Plus people will read and steal my moves. I'll name a few: the Oowa Krusha - named after UWA(Oowa) I was causing pain to their wrestlers so I named it after them, The Devious Bomb- Razor's edge to DDT invented by me in 96 but used by Joel Maximo and a host of others. And last the Infinite Black Ball-This is my pet move. Gotta see it to believe it!

DOI: I remember a bunch of the guys saying that Devious was too dangerous but I also believed that they were 100% wrong. They were just not prepared to be in there against someone your size, with your strength and your experience.

DOI: What was it like working in the legendary Elks Lodge in Queens, NY where you used to watch ECW shows?

Devious: It was the greatest moment yet in my career. We had the loudest pop in the 10 team match. It felt good hitting those curtains and seeing the ceiling and other angle. I can't wait to go back and blow it up!

DOI: What is your opinion on dating people inside of the business? Do you think it is more difficult then dating someone not involved in wrestling?

Devious: You are trying to be a smart ass! I have never dated anyone inside the business. People thought I had something going on with someone in the business. Don't feed into the shit! Now it can be good and bad. She can be with you all the time (can be good or bad), wrestlers are fiends for ass. You can't trust them with pussy, they all are Dreaded.

DOI: The Doghouse is closed up for now, what did that place mean to you and talk about Bobby Lombardi and Laithon and their impact on your career.

Devious: That was the best place to learn to wrestle and respect. Everyone that came from the doghouse is a superstar. Rather you know them or not. A doghouse show in the elks can blow out any show held in that building. Bobby gave me a chance when there was no place to get chances. He busted his ass to keep a place open for all of us and I can never pay back enough. Laithon can train you good. With all of his threats and other shit he helped me fine tune my skills. I started 3 weeks before he did but he continued when I couldn't and surpassed me. I will always thank him even if people like him or not. The other person that you didn't mention was Low Life Louie. He helped me also he put his ass (where it could fit) for me and my crew. When I felt like quitting he was there to keep me straight and I thank him for that.

DOI: You were and I am sure still are a great basketball player. I have been told you even had scholarships to play ball but you chose to go into wrestling. What made you chose wrestling over basketball?

Devious: My love for the sport! I love this more than Basketball. I miss some things with ball but when I hit that ring nothing else gives me a greater rush or makes me feel better.
