Danny Demanto
Whats up my fellow DOI-ites? Welcome to another McInterview. Today in the chair is none other than the controversial Danny Demanto. Danny shoots on anything and doesnt hold anything back. Its a great read and I had a fun time doing it, and reading it. Hope you enjoy it.
Sean The MiC McCaffrey: How did you get your start in wrestling?
Danny Demanto: I was a fan my whole life, I dressed up as Hulk Hogan for my 2nd Halloween. I met Jac Sabboth about 8 years ago when I used to collect baseball cards. We became cool and I used to do wrestling conventions with him and sell his stuff for him. Then I got into photography and started taking photos at certain indy shows. I then became close with Ricky O of JCW. I was taking photos for him and then he wanted me to get involved in a show so I had like a 30 sec lil match, which sucked cause I didnt know what I was doing. But at that show I realized I am going to go out and get trained. I looked for a good school that I could afford and started in the doghouse in late 2000.
The MiC: Who were your faves growing up?
Demanto: Growing up I liked Macho Man, LOD, Demolition, Hulk Hogan, and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat.
The MiC: Who did you train with, and how was it like? Anything like tough enough?
Demanto: NOTHING like Tough Enough! I trained at the doghouse with Laithon. Not many people give Laithon the credit he deserves. In my eyes hes one of the best big men in the business. He tough on people when they need it and hes a great teacher. He can teach anyone with the heart for wrestling how to do anything.
The MiC: What has been the best thing to you, about being in the business? The worst?
Demanto: The best was debuting and wrestling in the elks lodge.... that feeling is AMAZING! The worst is all the backstabbing and message board crap. But when I go out the curtain none of the BS matters.
The MiC: Many people are saying the iron man match you had with Justin Cage has been your best match, but what do you think has been your best match so far? Worst?
Demanto: To me that match was my best match but it could have sucked! I never got to see it on tape. My worst match was probably in a fed called DIW against this guy name Slayer... it was pretty bad and it was all the way in Philly and that was the 1st match my girlfriend at the time seen me in.
The MiC: What wrestlers do you look forward to wrestling, and have wrestled? Which wrestlers do you not like working with or wouldn't want to work with?
Demanto: I want to wrestle my trainer Laithon 1 on 1... it was supposed to happen a few times but got changed for various reasons. I love wrestling "my kids" Drew Blood, Devon Moore, Kevin Quinn, J Kronic, Hayden, and I love working with Tara Charisma and Becky Bayless. I wouldnt wanna work anyone that is lazy and doesnt wanna put 100% into the match. Other then that I'd work anyone.
The MiC: Who are you fav wrestlers to watch today? Worst?
Demanto: I like watching Homicide, Low Ki, Hit Squad, SAT, Red, Drew Blood, Devon Moore, DRS, Damian Dragon, John Walters... people I dont like to watch are the people that shouldnt be in the ring cause they dont have proper training.
The MiC: Do you have any funny stories that happened to you while backstage?
Demanto: Backstage.... no.... road stories yes but none I could bring up here. Kayfabe
The MiC: What is your side of the story with your fight with Deranged?
Demanto: It was something that was boiling over 1 years time. It was talk about all over the net and blown way out of proportion. I wish it never happened and I'm happy it is over.
The MiC: What is your side of the story about the rumors of you having a problem with Homicide?
Demanto: I dont have a problem with him at all.... I say hi and goodbye to him every chance I get and I study tapes of him to learn as much as I can. I think he is one of if not the best wrestler on the scene right now and I respect the shit out of him cause he did it the right way.
The MiC: What do you have to say to all the message board haters?
Demanto: Thats what it is... haters... and other workers trying to cause problems. I actually dont get mad at what people say.... I laugh.... I think its very what people make up on the boards. Only thing I got pissed at was someone posted my cell # on the board that was annoying.
The MiC: What do you think you can do to improve in wrestling?
Demanto: Training, Watching tapes, and just going out there and doing it... get on any shows that I can just to improve with every match. Experience is the best way to learn.
The MiC: How much driving do you do in a month?
Demanto: With shows in RI, MA, PA, NJ and stuff its alot but its all worth it in the end. I dont mind road trips.... I think its fun
The Infamous Word association
Frank
Goodman: Knows what he is doing.... Good businessman and straight forward.
Jac Sabboth: Long time friend... had our problems in the past now we will see
if hes good with his word
Ricky O: gave me my break when no one else did. Always will be a friend and
I hope I'll always be welcomed in the JCW family
Carmine Sabia: Just recently got to know him and hes a cool cat... I like working
for him and SSCW is a very cool fun fed.
Harry Slash: I could go to Harry with any type of problem and he will be there
to give me a straight up answer and help me through the problem. In wrestling
its hard to make real friends but Harry is truly a good friend.
Damian Dragon: VERY under rated! I wish people didnt look at him the way they
do. He was on top on the NY indy scene at 1 time and now hes 10x better but
isnt at the top anymore. I just wish one day a promoter... a top promoter will
see what he has.
Kevin Matthews: Big heart but sometimes a small brain! Takes crazy ass bumps
just like me thats why our bodies are all messed up. My best friend in wrestling.
But promoters dont book us against each other cause we will stink it up lol
jk
Tara Charisma: I look out for her like she is family. I have known Tara way
before she got into wrestling. Thats why I am so over protective of her. There
is also one thing that separates Tara from all the other girls in wrestling
and thats her HEART!
Drew Blood: Another kid that I look out for... I am happy Jac and Harry gave
him the break that he deserves. Awesome mat wrestler and has GREAT charisma.
Devon Moore: My lil spot monkey!! Just kidding! Awesome kid and I'm happy him
and drew got the break they did. Another kid with more heart then brains sometimes
but I love um.
Mia Angel: This girl is a name-dropping rat. She tried to cause problems with
me and other workers but everyone looks at her as a joke. Amy, if you are reading
this all the people you said were your friends I am going to blow up right now...
Havok, Homicide, Boogalou, Crazy Ivan .... Ive seen them at shows and they didnt
beat me up and as far as I know I'm cool with all of them. Get a life.
Josh Deely: The kid was always cool to me. I just think he should take time
off, train his BUTT off and come back and shut everyone up.
Trekkie: GREAT Gimmick!
Low Life Louie Ramos: Hardcore Icon! I REQUESTED to work him June 27th at the
elks in my 1 and only hardcore match. THANKS Frank for making it happen.
Ms. Sinful: Doesnt understand the business. She went on USAPW site and bashed
me saying I was writing about her on the message board. Why would I go on the
message board and write about her. Shes done a whole bunch of nothing in wrestling
for me to write about her. I was always cool with her before she said that stuff.
But girl you said Kevin and me think our shit dont stink. Try doing some shows
that you dont sell tickets on first then talk shit about me.
Slingblade Carl: Great guy! Just got married and I had the hottest date at his
wedding and thats a shoot.
Becky Bayless: My Sister! hahaha Becky is my best female friend in wrestling.
Our late night talks are funny as hell. She makes me laugh when no one else
can. And she has the heart to make it in this business. I LOVE HER LIKE A SISTER!
High spot
Noel: I dont really know much about her. Always was cool with me
DRS: A tag team that knows how to be old school with a new school flavor. I
used to go on the ECW Bus trips with KC Blade and talk about old school WWF
Tag Team wrestling. Now look where they are. They are proof you dont have to
do 21973873 spots to be over.
Deranged: I'm happy all the beef is over. Nuff said
Homicide: Best on the indies right now. My favorite to watch.
Declaration of Independents: GREAT idea! Great PEOPLE! Cant wait for the BBQ
Danny Demanto: Improving day by day. I think I have a big heart and thats what
sets me aside from others. The MiC: What are you career goals?
Demanto: To improve with every match and to make people go home and say hey; Danny Demanto had a pretty good match tonight.
The MiC: What do you have to say to anyone reading this?
Demanto: If you wanna check out my site its www.dannydemanto.com Feel free to drop an email or sign the guest book. I love hearing from people. And thanks for supporting indy wrestling cause without the fans we would be nobody.
"The MiC": Thanks for doing this interview.
