Dan Payne

What up boys and girls and welcome to another McInterview. This time, I interviewed AWA Heavyweight Champion, Dan Payne. Dan Payne has been a fixture of the AWA promotion for some time now, and has been involved in some vicious matches, most recently with Danny Demanto. In this interview Payne talks about his career, AWA, UWA and alot more. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: How did you get into the pro wrestling business?
Dan Payne: I was born in the wrestling business, My father was a was a professional wrestler for the WWWF and the NWA promotions back in the 70's, so thats how i was introduced to wrestling.
Dan Payne: I was a real big Hogan fan at the height on the Hulkamania era, but as time went on i really grew a liking for Bret Hart, Ricky Steamboat and Jake Roberts
Dan Payne: I would say my match with AC Smooth, mainly because we have known each other for about 6 years now (he is one of the people that gave me advise in the early stages of my career and still does) and we really trusted each other so the match came off perfectly.
Dan Payne: AC would be one, Johnny Thunder was fun too, Dave Donovan was great too, so i'll say those guys for me were the best too work with.
Dan Payne: Ticket Sellers.
Dan Payne: Its fun, without a doubt the best time i'm having in my career, the environment in great, the fans are great, and the workers are great. Hands down a great experience.
Dan Payne: Seeing in from an inside perspective i think its stupid, mainly cause Frankie is bashing us, he is the one who declared war, we really don't care what UWA or what Frankie is doing, and i say we as for Mike and all the workers, we don't care, whatever he says don't bother us, we are just out there performing trying to build the AWA product. If Frankie thinks he is hurting us then he's dumber then he looks, i mean last few show, because of his bashing we have been getting a packed house every show, so Frankie it ain't working.
Dan Payne: I'll just tell him to grow up and worry about what the UWA is doing, not how to bash us on the internet. Frankie GROW UP!!!
Dan Payne: Being the Heavyweight champion is awesome, it's also a huge responsibility, but all in all its a great experience.
Dan Payne: Dan Maff and Johnny Thunder.
Mike Morgan
Dan Payne: - The man i will be in debt to forever, gave me a chance when noone else would.
Dan Payne: - A true vetern, a good person to get advise from.
Dan Payne: - One hell of a wrestler.
Dan Payne: - Hardcore.
Dan Payne: - A good friend of mine and my family, always treated me with respect.
Dan Payne: - i knew this guy when he was putting up rings in NY, he wasn't that great back then, don't know about now, he also had a really bad attitude.
Dan Payne: Me who else (lol) nah seriously, I really like watching VIP i think they are great performers, but i would have to say that in my opinion Dan Dynasty is gonna be big one day, he's got loads of potential.
Dan Payne: I think we don't really have a worst wrestler in the AWA we just have less experienced workers, so noone.
Dan Payne: Well besides thinking of new moves to do all day, i wake up, workout a little, then head to class, come home, sleep repeat.
Dan Payne: Not hard at all if you know how to manage it, its all about putting your priorities first.
Dan Payne: ACW, WWW, JCW (only 3 shows), Gladiators Wrestling Promotions, IPWA, UWA, RDW, and others that i really can't remember right now.
Dan Payne: I think the main problem with wrestling are egos, i think the state of indy wrestling would be alot better if people would just leave there egos at the door, why must these workers constantly complain about every little thing that the promoter says or wants from them. If we could all just work together and stop worrying about how much you want to impress some critic (no offense) and worry more about putting on the best show possible for the fans, then indy wrestling would be the best its been in years cause the talent the indys have are amazine.
Dan Payne: I think Vince needs competition, cause from the looks of things in the next 5 or so year people are going to be saying "WWE? whats WWE?" and we all know WWE is pro wrestling.
What are your thoughts on the loyal AWA Fans? i think they suck (lol) they are the best fans on the indys hands down.
Dan Payne: I want him in a hardcore match for the AWA Heavyweight Championship (lol) i think he's funny at times, one cool mofo.
Dan Payne: As long as it wasn't gay porn, we good.
Dan Payne: Everything
Dan Payne: Nothing
Dan Payne: To be in the WWE, but if i can't do that then i want to be a promoter.
Dan Payne: the AWA is about to explode, so look for some really good stuff from us very, very soon.
