Damien Morrus

Indiana Indy Star
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Why did you get into pro wrestling?
Damien Morrus: I got into professional wrestling because I wanted to be like the guys on tv. Those guys were indestructable, they would take a beating and be able to walk out. No man could do that but wrestlers could. I loved wrestling from a very young age. My uncle got me hooked when I was young. He has supported me ever since i decided to try it. I also was a bit of a class clown and perform well under pressure and in front of people.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling?
Damien Morrus: I got into wrestling at a young age, I believe i was only like 13 or so when I started helping a local promotion (HPW). I sold tickets, worked the gimmick table and set up and tore down the ring. Then about 2 years of that I decided to start my training with them. I have learned for some top tier talent during my training.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What was your training like?
Damien Morrus: Training in HPW wasnt bad, I only trained maybe once a week due to my school and Varsity sports. I trained under people such as Tommy Rich, Doug Gilbert, Michael Shane, and a few others. When i wasnt training at HPW i was in the gym and doing my amateur wrestling and football. So i was keeping in shape.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What promotions have you worked for and which do you like working for the best?
Damien Morrus: I have worked for AWA, USWF, HPW, SCW, AOPW, FEW, and SEI PRO. I like working for all of them. They all have their ups and downs but I would have to consider them all to be home.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: The DOI is focused in the northeast. You currently work alot in Indiana. What is the state of indy wrestling in Indiana and what is hot there?
Damien Morrus: The state of wrestling in Indiana is pretty bad right now. There are a few promotions that are prospering very well. AOPW is just starting out they have potential but they need to prove themselves. HPW has been around for a while so has AWA/SEI PRO. The promotions in Indianapolis seem to be doing decent but it seems like all the fans want is hardcore. I would much rather see wrestling than blood and violence.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Working off the last question, on whatever knowledge you know about northeast indy wrestling, how does it differ and how is it similiar to indy wrestling in Indiana?
Damien Morrus: I dont really know all that much, I mean I am knowledgable about wrestling in the North East, I have friends who work on the East Coast. (PS Phenom, GODD, and Ghetto Blaster) I know that MCW was a big name over there, Its kinda sad that they closed down. One of my friends who helped me with my web site always went there and said the shows were great.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What is it like holding a title and knowing that a promoter has enough faith in you to carry a championship title belt?
Damien Morrus: I think it is great that a promoter would have that much faith in you to carry the promotion, I have held belts in AWA/SEI Pro, HPW and AOPW. I believed I had a good run with those titles, I tried to add a little more credibility to them by using my wrestling ability over my mic work and i think it worked.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Why Who are your favorite WWE stars?
Damien Morrus: I like several guys in WWE. My favorite ones to watch are Benoit, Angle, Lesnar, H, and Matt Hardy.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who are your favorite indy stars?
Damien Morrus: I like Raven He has an excellent mind. I dont know, there are many great indy wrestlers out there, I enjoy watching as many indy tapes as i can though just to get a feel of what the future of wrestling is.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What is a normal day in the life of Damien Morrus?
Damien Morrus: A normal day. Honestly i dont think with my job and life you could consider any day normal. I wake up at like 5 am work out before work do some cardio. Eat breakfast. Then it's off to work, I am a Corrections Officer for the County Jail, so any day could be very dangerous for me. After work I go to Ceraland and lift weights 3 times a week. I am still trying to get my degree in IT systems at night. Its very busy for me but I love every minute of it.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your best match and why did you think it was your best?
Damien Morrus: I think some of my best matches have been against one of my best friends in the business Chris Blayze. We just go out there and go balls to the wall. Every match we try to go out and top the one before it and the ones before those. Its to the point to where we could be told we were working each other right before we go out there and we could put on a great match, we just know what each other is going to do and what to expect.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your favorite moment in the business? Worst moment?
Damien Morrus: My favorite moment in wrestling is just lacing my boots and hearing my music play, I live to entertain the fans. I belive i will be involved in this until i can no longer contribute anything. My worst moment was in a tag match I completely tore out my knee, i finished the match, but it put college football in jeopardy, more than that it put wrestling in jeopardy. But, I had my surgery rehabbed my ass off and returned a little over 4 months after I was off crutches.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who would you rather spend a night with, Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?
Damien Morrus: Christina Aguilera, she is freaking hot. Plus those piercings and stuff are what i like. I like the girls who have tattoos and piercings. I mean I have 14 tattoos of my own so a girl has to have atleast 3 or 4.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who are your favorite opponents? Least favorite?
Damien Morrus: My favorite opponents are the guys like me, big and can work. I am 6'4" 350 but I move in the ring like im 225. I can almost do a front flip and land on my feet, I am perfecting a moonsault, and I go to the local YMCA and I am working on trying a Shooting Star. The guys i hate are the big guys who cant move and can only punch and kick.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think about the current state of wrestling today?
Damien Morrus: I think it is on a downhill spiral. I just hope that I can continue to perform and wait out the bad so I can get to the good.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think about the internets role on wrestling?
Damien Morrus: For me it helps me out because I really like to go to other indy sites and check up on whats going on. I can see where people say that it hurts business, but wrestling was in a slump before the internet became popular.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your long term and short term career goals?
Damien Morrus: Short term I want to wrestle as much as I can and get as much experience I can, I have only been doing this for about 4 years, thats a millisecond in wrestling years. I workout in the ring atleast 3 times a week. Long term I want to make it somewhere. TNA, WWE, Japan, or Mexico. Of course thats what everybodys dream is but I will keep working until i cant work anymore or I make it somewhere.
