Damian Adamns

What up there jerky and welcome to another McInterview. Today’s guest is one solid wrestler and a participant in many match of the nights. He is none other than “Debonair” Damian Adams. Damian Adams competes in a lot of different promotions from 3PW to NWS to many more. This is a great and informative interview and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into wrestling, and why did you want to get into wrestling?
Damian Adams: A couple of reasons that made me decide to become a professional wrestler. To begin with, I was always a fan of wrestling since I was young. I would watch it on TV or my mother would sometimes get me tickets for the WWE when they came into Madison Square Garden. Yet the one memory that sticks out for me the most is the time I went to my first Indy wrestling event. Until then I had no idea that Indy wrestling even existed and the only reason I went was because a co-worker's roommate was working that night at an NWA Jersey show in Hazlet, NJ. Although I had an immense interest for wrestling, I always shied away from the thought of further pursuing it due to my size and passion for baseball. It wasn't until the end of the show when I had seen the size of some of the workers such as Sabu and Chris Candido. They were about the same size as me and portrayed such strong athleticism that I was enticed to try it. Coincidentally, a guy named Kevin Knight was sitting next to me. I had recognized him from a local newspaper article and began a conversation. He mentioned that he was the head trainer at Camp IWF, a school he recently opened up in West Paterson, NJ. He invited me to come down and check the school out and I was hooked after a few weeks of workout sessions. I spent my days training there from opening to closing hours. My first professional match was in October 1, 2000 and I've been expanding my knowledge and career ever since.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What was your training like? Anything like Tough Enough?
Damian Adams: My training days were Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the IWF camp in West Paterson, NJ. A basic training day would start out with calisthenics, drills, practice matches and promos as well. Occasionally I would attend dojo seminars at the IWF hosted by WWE wrestlers such as Tom Pritchard, Ken Shamrock, Tom Brandi and Honky Tonk Man. These dojos were helpful by further enhancing my knowledge of wrestling skills and techniques. As far as Tough Enough goes...I only watched one episode so I wouldn't really know about that!
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up? Least favorite?
Damian Adams: There are so many but to name a few favorites:
Ricky
Steamboat
Ric Flair
Don Muraco
Bret Hart
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What independent wrestlers do you like to watch today? Who do you think don't belong in the ring?
Damian Adams: I really appreciate watching everyone work, especially independent workers such as Da Hit Squad, Homicide, Reckless Youth, Joey Matthews and Christopher Daniels. Also, I enjoy watching two of my best friends in the business-Rob Eckos and Josh Daniels. I believe anyone who doesn't take wrestling serious or is untrained should be in the ring.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think about "promoters" or trainers who feel the need to title the people they train?
Damian Adams: Obviously the belts aren't real but if they feel the worker is up to par to represent the company then so be it. Basically its up to the promoters and whatever they feel necessary.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What has been your best match in your career, and what has made it stand out?
Damian Adams: I honestly don't have a favorite match...every match is unique and unpredictable.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You are a very good wrestler, and have been booked by alot of promotions due to this. What are your favorite promotions to work for? Least favorite?
Damian Adams: As with my matches, I don't really have a favorite promotion. I like each company's style of using different workers with unique styles and characters for different types of crowds.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You are a staple in many NJ and PA feds. Would you ever think of branching out to NY promotions?
Damian Adams: Absolutely if the opportunity comes along and it doesn't conflict with any other of my show dates.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What's your favorite beer?
Damian Adams: Corona or Coors Light...
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What is it like being in locker rooms with such legends as Terry Funk, Jerry Lawler, Sandman, etc?
Damian Adams: Its cool being in the same dressing room with guys that I grew up watching on TV. However, now I see things a bit differently being on the other end of the spectrum.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have won various titles in your career. How does it feel when a promoter books you to become a champion in their promotion? Is it just a regular match, or do you feel something else when becoming known as champion?
Damian Adams: I appreciate it when a promoter puts a title on me because as said before, although the title is not real, its a great feeling knowing the company thinks highly enough of you to have you represent them. I give 100% no matter what match I'm in.
