The Christopher Street Connection
Buff-E and Mace

What's up everyone and welcome to an interview with one half of one of the most controversial tag teams in wrestling, the Christopher Street Connection. This time, I sat down with Buff-E of the CSC. The CSC have just experienced the biggest year in their careers so far, as they have recently made an appearance in the land of the rising sun. The CSC are also fresh off a USA Pro Tag Team title win. The CSC have worked all over the northeast in such promotions as ROH, JAPW, JCW, ICW, USA PW and more. In this interview, Buff-E discusses every aspect of his career, his peers and more in one of the better interviews here on the DOI site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
McNote: To read an interview with Buff-E's partner, Mace, go here: Mace Interview

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You got your start in wrestling in one of the most influential places in indy wrestling today, the Doghouse. What was it like training in the doghouse?

Buff-E of The CSC: Contrary to popular belief, neither my partner nor myself got our start in the Dogouse. We got our start in a promotion headed up by LOWLIFE LOUIE RAMOS. That fed was called I.W.W. IT WAS IN THE ATTIC OF A CHURCH, others might know of it by the name of PEDRO'S, aka The Arena Of Puerto Rico.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Homicide and Low Life Louie made an impact on your career. What are your thoughts on these men and who else has helped you during your time as a pro wrestler?

Buff-E of The CSC: Where do I even begin to with these two men? Lowlife was the first person I ever met at I.W.W. Technically it was Homicide, who had me years earlier when he was just starting in the business and was still an active member in a national street gang. With Lowlife I don’t always see eye to eye on a ton of subjects, we have alot of disagreements. I fought him in a hardcore match where he sent me to the hospital. That was one of my favorite matches, it was the infamous Abner Louima MATCH. Homicide just showed you what you can do if you want it bad enough. Here is a guy who taught himself and was open to sharing it if you wanted to learn it. One of my earlier matches was with Homicide and that match was where I started working him stiff, he taught me what stiff was when he beat my ass with one of those leather weight lifting belts. He was very instrumental in getting me into JAPW many years ago when I was just a ref.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: For a little while in 2002, you took some time off from wrestling. Where did you go? What did you think about your replacement in Eddie Guapo?

Buff-E of The CSC: Actually it was not time off, I had quit the business completely- I did not watch it on TV, I did not visit wrestling web sites and I spoke to no one in the business. To this day I will remember the only two people who called me to see how I was. Those two people were Monsta Mack and Lowlife Louie. I like Eddie Guapo, but he was not ready yet, Mace obviously was not for my leaving the business so it was hard for them to get n'sync and put it together. I thought the team had potential, as you had a straight guy and a gay guy.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: When you returned to the CSC, and wrestling, at ROH's 2/8 Elks Lodge Show, the place went wild. What did that feel like?

Buff-E of The CSC: That day is one of my favorite memories, I had no idea how the crowd would react, I didn’t know what the boys would say to me. It was also supposed to be just a one shot deal as well. Right before we were to go through the curtain I turned to Mace and said "if this goes wrong, I’m just going to keep walking through the door", the reaction we got made me go " OH SHIT " it was unbelievable.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: The CSC has become one of the better tag teams on the wrestling scene. How do you keep things fresh for so long? Where do you get your ideas from?

Buff-E of The CSC: We have kept it fresh I would say because we have alot of fun in the ring. You would be surprised at how much our opponents actually want to do in our matches when it comes time for the gay spots. We get alot of ideas from other workers or from watching a move and thinking how funny it would be to change it to fit our needs.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: The CSC has had a long line of managers. It is my opinion that you guys don't need a manager. Do you think the CSC need a manager and why do you think every promotion gives you a different manager?

Buff-E of The CSC: I agree with you. I don’t think we need a manager either. Every promotion gives us a manager because they see some potential with the manager. They think of some comedy coming out of it.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your full thoughts on these following managers that you've had in your career?
Allison Danger

Buff-E of The CSC: She is hands down the best manager we ever had, she added alot to us, she just knew what to do at all times.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Frankie V.

Buff-E of The CSC: Has alot of desire but needs more seasoning, he is now learning the psychology of his persona the Diva, I expect him to make some noise in the next few months.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Devin Sturgis

Buff-E of The CSC: El Pimpy, really disappointed me, needs to step up his game. This isn’t Kansas anymore.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Dana Dameson

Buff-E of The CSC: Oh man, I saw so much potential with her lesbian gimmick, her you had a girl that all the guys wanted to have sex with and she was a lesbian. I would love for her to mature and not be involved in so much stupidity. But then again I see who she associates with so I might never see it. She really needs to learn to separate her wrestling and personal lives.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Rob Feinstein was also your manager when he was the "Fun Athletic Guy". What was it like working with him? What are your thoughts on RF's current situation from the Perverted-Justice story to him being forced out of the company he created, ROH? Also, do you think RF is guilty of any crime?

Buff-E of The CSC: I loved it when RF was doing the F.A.G. gimmick, it was the F.A.G., YUMMY BOY and The Christopher Street Connection and we made up The Rainbow Coalition. I would love to bring that group back. I feel bad for R.F. and what he is going through because he loves this business as much as you and I do. As for being guilty I have to say no. I don’t believe him to be guilty of this. I have said this from the beginning, now all this new information is coming out and now many are starting to have second thoughts.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: During the RF situation, ROH took you off their shows, with pay. Did you think that was fair?

Buff-E of The CSC: It was cool that we still got paid, I mean this is the indys. We understood the position that Gabe was in. Gabe has always been honest with us, we understood why he could not have us come out. The only thing I didn’t like was it was like saying " gays are pedophiles" We are gay not pedophiles.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: JAPW has been one of your off and on home promotions. What is it like working in JAPW and what do you think about the management there?

Buff-E of The CSC: Its always fun at J.A.P.W., they might not use us often but they never forget about us. Ray Sager knows first hand what the C.S.C. can do in the ring as he fought us in our debut match for them. I can still remember when J.A.P.W. was the R.O.H. of its time.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You've recently had a great series of matches against Simon Diamond/Matt Striker in USA PW, culminating with the CSC winning the tag team championships. Are these the first "big" indy tag team belts you've won? What is it like being a champion and being recognized for your hard work?

Buff-E of The CSC: First off I want to thank DIAMOND and STRIKER for the matches we have had with them. They have been great with everything. Yes these are our first " big" indy belts. Its cool being the champs, my partner and I would like to defend these belts against some of the best on the indys, not just the tag teams now in USAPRO. I Would love to fight, The OutCast Killas, The RingCrew Express, I would love to face Slyk WAGNER Brown and April Hunter, THE S.A.T.s of course. The Untouchables as well. That's just to name a few.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: The CSC in recent times have been on the losing side more often than the winning side. Why do you feel that other tag teams get the look, when the CSC have proved that they have "it", have good matches, and generate fan interest?

Buff-E of The CSC: We don’t politic for one, you don’t see us name dropping to get bookings, we don’t hang out with bookers or promoters. We do what we do in the ring.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: There have been rumors about your involvement in the Ariel/Hanson situation. What do you want to say about that in this open forum? What are your opinions on Ariel and Ref Hanson?

Buff-E of The CSC: Yes, I am aware of a lot of rumors some true some not. Yes it's true Hanson does not have a Ribera jacket, ha ha ha ha ha ha. I really think right now the best thing for Ariel and Hanson is to not be together, they both have careers that they need to focus on right now.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: On March 15, 2003, you were part of one of the wackiest and most entertaining main events in your career, when with Mace and Mikey Whipwreck, you wrestled Steve Corino/Guillotine LeGrande/CW Anderson. What was that match like and did it have any long lasting impact on your career?

Buff-E of The CSC: The match was hilarious yes and one of the easiest called matches ever. We just thought up anything silly and did it, yes it had an impact on our careers because we still do so much comedy in our matches. One of the funnier matches involved Mana from W.X.W. when we faced him at a World 1 show.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What have been some of your favorite matches?

Buff-E of The CSC: All my matches with Da Hit Squad, The East-West connection in Japan for Zero-1, our first match with the OutCast Killaz, the three way with The Solution and the D.R.S. That’s just a few. I have lots more.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What opponents do you like wrestling?

Buff-E of The CSC: I like wrestling the Solution because we just go in the ring and work. We know what we can do and we just do it.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What opponents do you not like wrestling?

Buff-E of The CSC: I hate wrestling opponents who are such marks for themselves that they don’t have fun in the ring. They want to call 1001 high spots and that’s it. They don’t know anything about psychology and telling a story.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: As a male wrestler who's had to bust his ass to make a name for himself, what do you think about females in wrestling with no training who get booked and pushed?

Buff-E of The CSC: I don’t mind the females in the business even if they don’t have training BUT I do take issue with these women thinking they are divas and not having respect for the business. They don’t know how to conduct themselves in the back and are careless and spend hours on top of hours being marks for themselves.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your thoughts on the following indy tag teams?
Briscoe Brothers

Buff-E of The CSC: Cant duck us forever, an awesome challenge.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: SAT

Buff-E of The CSC: Hungry, these guys have been busting their asses for a while now, still continue to get better. Always improving their game.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: DRS

Buff-E of The CSC: A big DISAPOINTMENT,I still like them but I would rather they just SHUT THE FUCK UP AND WRESTLE. Had some fun matches with them in the past.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: All Money Is Legal

Buff-E of The CSC: A.M.I.L. really have impressed me, they are quietly making their presence known on the indys. They are gaining good momentum, I hope they don’t let it go to their heads like another tag team i know.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: The Solution

Buff-E of The CSC: The Solution are incredible, I feel they needed a team like the Hit Squad to push them to the next level. They seem to be stuck in a limbo and need to break free of it.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Outcast Killahz

Buff-E of The CSC: A team that is under rated since not too many people here in New York have seen them in person. Work real tight and don’t mind eating it either.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Los Lunatics

Buff-E of The CSC: WHO??????????? NEVER HEARD OF EM!

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Extreme Horsemen

Buff-E of The CSC: Very easy to work, everything called in the ring. Gave us alot.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You recently just had a career milestone, as you wrestled in Japan. Who did you wrestle there? What did you like about the matches? Will you be back there again?

Buff-E of The CSC: While in Japan we wrestled twice, the first night we wrestled the East-West connection for the N.W.A. Light Heavyweight tag titles. We came up short in that one. The next night we did a pay per view and we fought Josh Daniels and Jonny Storm, we came up short again. We liked the matches because it was in front of a completely different audience. We were not sure of the reaction we would get. We did get a good reaction though. VERY GOOD! I think we will be going back and will keep you informed on that.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What was it like seeing your picture in the Japanese press?

Buff-E of The CSC: That was nuts we were in the papers everyday and we didn’t know it. The media was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived and they knew more about us than we knew about ourselves. They love the kiss spot, ha ha ha!

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Is the Ribera steakhouse as good as it's cracked up to be?

Buff-E of The CSC: Man the aura of the place is what makes it great, but the place is like a shack.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your favorite promotions to work for?

Buff-E of The CSC: In no particular order Ring Of Honor, USAPRO, JAPW, world 1.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Has Jac Sabboth ever stiffed you?

Buff-E of The CSC: HA HA HA AH, No, he actually always took care of us.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think about other "gay" wrestlers such as Pinkie Sanchez, Dickie Rodz and Archadia? Do you think any of them do it like the CSC, and you find it flattering or annoying that they do the gay gimmick?

Buff-E of The CSC: I don’t like that they do the gimmick and don’t do it right. It drives me nuts that they don’t go the extra mile with it. I find it annoying because they can do so much with it and don’t go through with it.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Likewise, what did you think about the Billy and Chuck wedding?

Buff-E of The CSC: I thought that was the end of the career right there. When i heard its Raining Men play, I was in shock. I was like " oh no", I was very happy to say the least that they did not go through with it.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What was it like working in World 1 for Steve Corino?

Buff-E of The CSC: Great, the locker room was very close like the Ring Of Honor locker room.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think needs to be done to create more interest in indy wrestling?

Buff-E of The CSC: My opinion is wrestling is taking itself too seriously. We live in a day and age where we live under threat and scrutiny, fans turn to wrestling to escape. Years ago before the attacks here in NYC people wanted reality in wrestling because everything was going good in the world. Now i believe fans want more gimmick.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What does the future hold for the CSC?

Buff-E of The CSC: I have no idea, we have alot of things in the works but dont want to speak on it right now.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Is going to Japan the biggest moment in your career?

Buff-E of The CSC: Yes it was, we all watch the Japanese wrestling tapes and "borrow" alot from the Japanese wrestlers so it was cool to go out there and actually work with them.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you want to say to anyone reading this?

Buff-E of The CSC: KEEP AN EYE ON THE CHRISTOPHER STREET CONNECTION THIS YEAR CAUSE WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO MAKE THE FANS HAPPY. You will see us invading new feds this year and keep an eye on the DOI to find out where we will be next.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Thanks for this interview and I wish you good luck in your career, and with your relationship with Mace.
