"The Lead Story" Cory Steele

What up boys and girls, and welcome to another McInterview. This time I sat down with “The Lead Story” Cory Steele, who wrestles prominently in Georgia. This is another Georgia wrestler to be featured on the Declaration of Independents site, and we’re proud to present this interview to you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: I got into wrestling about 8 years ago when my friends and I decided to start a backyard organization (not like the ones today). We had characters, angles, stages, etc to make our "show" better. About 3 years ago, my best friend, Zero, found a wrestling school in Jesup, GA. After a couple of months of training, Zero began to work many indy shows in the SouthEast and I started joining him on his trips.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What was your training like? Anything like Tough Enough?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: Like I said, Zero trained me by me going on EVERY trip EVERY weekend. We would get to shows early in the morning to train, stay for the show, leave late and then do it all again the next weekend. My training was nothing like Tough Enough. I learned through ring time and paying my dues.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up? Least favorite?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: I loved wrestlers like Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Steamboat, The Rockers, and Razor Ramon. Some of my least favorite were Ric Flair (although I have so much respect for him), Vader, Rick Rude, and Arn Anderson.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your best match so far, and why did you like it so much?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: My best match so far has to be any time I wrestle Zero. Each time I step into the ring with him I seem to step up my performance.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have won lots of titles in your career, in various promotions in Georgia. How does it feel when a promoter gives you a title, signaling that you are the right person to represent his company?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: A title in all, is worthless. But, to know that you are the man the promoter wants to make on top is a great feeling of achievement.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You wrestle alot in Georgia. How does the state of Georgia indy wrestling compare with northeast indy wrestling promotions, such as ROH, ECWA, or 3PW? Wow.

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: Gees. Georgia has a great base with professional wrestling, as does the southeast. Of course you have NWA-Wildside and TNA, but the small, good shows are hard to come by. I really admire the guys in ROH and the others. The fans in the northeast are great fans and appreciate the sport. I'd love to some day be working for some of these promotions.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your best memory in the business?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: My best memory in this business so far has been every time I step into a wrestling ring. It's hard to believe that I'm actually living my dream and its scary every time I think about it. I love the sport and there's nothing I'd rather do today.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What wrestlers are you a fan of today?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: I love watching guys like AJ Styles, Red, Xavier, Kid Kash, and Low-Ki. These guy truly put their hearts and souls into the business and I love to watch them perform.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Do you have any pre-match superstitions?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: Before my match I always pray and ask God to protect me and help me wrestle to the best of my ability.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Where did you get the nickname of the "The Lead Story"?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: "The Lead Story" comes from road-trip after road-trip of coming up with a name. I use Cory Steele and Zero and I had to come up with something catchy. "Story" rhymed with Cory and started with St for Steele ( a little alliteration from ENG 101).

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What's a normal day in the life of "The Lead Story" Cory Steele?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: I'm a student at the University of Georgia and I'm a Pre-Business Marketing major. For the summer, I'm a day-camp counselor for the YMCA in Savannah. Any other time I'm usually doing anything that a normal teen would do.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your short and longterm career goals?

“The Lead Story” Cory Steele: Short term- I'm trying really hard right now to make it with a group in S. Carolina called Impact Championship Wresting which feeds into OMEGA. It has been a dream of mine to work at OMEGA. Long Term - Of course, someday I want to make it into the "show" and hopefully establish myself as a recognizable indy wrestler.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you have to say to anyone reading this?
