Chasyn Rance

Declaration
of Independents: Tell us about when you first knew you wanted to become a
professional wrestler.
Chasyn Rance: Well, I've wanted to become a professional wrestler ever since
I can remember. I don't know of a time that I didn't want to be a wrestling
superstar.
Declaration of Independents: Who trained you and where did you train?
Chasyn Rance: I was trained by Rusty Brooks with help from Billy Fives, Bruno
Sassi, the Warlord, and Rocky Johnson. Rusty's school was and still is in
South Florida around the Hollywood, FL area.
Declaration of Independents: Do you agree with the following statement: I
can learn something new every time I set foot in the ring.
Chasyn Rance: Definitely. Every time I have a match, I learn from it, and
I see guys who have been in the business for 20 years who still learn. Jerry
Lynn for example still talks about how he learns new things when he is in
a match.
Declaration of Independents: You are also trained in Martial Arts. Tell us
about that training and has it helped you in your wrestling career?
Chasyn Rance: I started training in Shaolin Kempo Karate under the Grandmaster
Fred Villari and my teacher was Master Michael Kaplan. I spent a full 8 years
at least three days a week in the dojo and whenever I can now, I get in a
dojo. The martial arts has definitely helped me in many ways such as discipline,
effort, and respect.
Declaration of Independents: Tell us about each one of your aliases - El Lobo,
The Kempo Kid, and The D.T.W. Ninja
Chasyn Rance: It looks like old gimmicks will always haunt me. El Lobo was
my first gimmick where I was a masked luchador from Tacula, Mexico but wrestled
in a karate gi. The Kempo Kid was just me more of a martial artist rather
than more of a wrestler. The D.T.W. Ninja was a gimmick for this group D.T.W.
where I was the body guard of the leader. D.T.W. stands for Don't Trust Women.
Declaration of Independents: You were invited to train in Antonio Inoki Dojo
in California. What was going through your mind when you received the invite
and tell us about your time there.
Chasyn Rance: Well, they didn't just invite me. My personal advisor, Mister
Saint Laurent, sent me info on the seminar and that they wanted a tape, info,
etc. I sent my stuff out and when I got an e-mail about it, I was ecstatic.
I figured out a way to get there and a place to stay. My cousin, Dawn, is
living out there now and lives less than 10 minutes from the dojo. I went
out there and was the first one there on the first of two days. It turned
out to be only 4 of us for the tryout that day. Out of the hundreds of tapes
sent in, 25 workers were invited, 10 to 15 confirmed, and then only 4 showed
up. It allowed me to stand out more but still, it was really tough. I just
knew that I could not quit. It was such hell. One of the guys threw up and
took off a lot of the training and another took time out from some of the
training. I did not do that great the first day, but I did not give up. The
second day, I was the only one to return. A new worker came but quit shortly
into it. I did the entire tryout that day by myself. I was told I did much
better that day. We'll see what happens now with New Japan. I am waiting for
Rocky Romero and others to get back from CMLL to talk to them about it. Until
then, who knows what's going to happen.
Declaration of Independents: What federations are you currently working in
and where are they located?
Chasyn Rance: I currently work for Major League Wrestling in a capacity other
than wrestling for right now. In Florida, there are companies starting and
dying all the time. Mainstay companies that I currently work for are that
of IPW-Hardcore, NWA-Florida, Florida Championship Wrestling, Southern Championship
Wrestling, No Name Wrestling, Future Stars of Pro Wrestling, Sunray Pro Wrestling,
Four Star Championship Wrestling, and a few others. But, things are always
up in there air so I never know when I may be traveling somewhere or something
new may start up. There are other companies over seas that I am talking to
and hopefully going there by the end of the year but nothing that I can really
discuss further.
Declaration of Independents: What are your long term goals in professional
wrestling?
Chasyn Rance: To eventually retire after making a name for myself and making
enough money to support a family at not too old of an age.
Declaration of Independents: We focus a lot of our work in the D.O.I. on the
Northeast but have been branching out which is why this interview means a
lot to us. Who are some of the other top Indy talents down South that the
Northeast should watch out for?
Chasyn Rance: A lot of workers down here do get attention but there are a
few that may need a bit more. Guys like Thump Dupree who has been making a
name for himself in the Central Florida area. Leon Scott is another who along
with the beautiful Tiziana Corday make a combination that everyone gets into.
There is also a female wrestler named Vanessa Harding that I think will get
a big break when she is ready.
Declaration of Independents: How would you characterize your wrestling style
and how do you feel about strong style wrestling?
Chasyn Rance: When I list my three sets of style, strong style is the first
I list followed by Lucha Libre and Martial Arts. I guess I could also use
traditional wrestling but when I compare strong style to traditional wrestling,
I definitely prefer strong style. I think it is great and brings more of a
legitimacy to professional wrestling.
Declaration of Independents: Who were your inspirations growing up inside
and outside of wrestling?
Chasyn Rance: I don't remember if I was a huge Hulk Hogan fan, but I think
I was. I know I was a huge Bret Hart fan until I met him. I met Owen Hart,
and he became a big inspiration. The death was a huge tragedy to me.
Declaration of Independents: How does your family feel about your involvement
in professional wrestling?
Chasyn Rance: That's a funny question because up until the last month, they
had no idea that I have been wrestling. Two and a half years ago, when I was
17, I suffered a concussion that caused me to lose my memory for a day. I
was allowed one last match and then I started again when I was in college.
My mom just found out when she somehow found my website at www.chasynrance.com
and came to a match soon after. Jamie Noble was at the match and she happened
to sit next to him. Everyone was asking him for an autograph, so my mom went
up to him to ask who he was After he explained his wrestling background, my
mom asked if he'd critic me. My mom loved the match and so did Noble, so she
is cool with it now and plans to come to more in the future.
Declaration of Independents: Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie
and Pamela Anderson are having a 4 corner elimination match with the winner
getting a date with Chasyn Rance. Who would you interfere for and how would
the match end and why?
Chasyn Rance: I think my winner wouldn't need my help but I would enter the
ring and whisper to J-Lo that Pamela thinks her breast are better than J-Lo's
ass and whisper to Pamela that J-Lo thinks her ass is better than Pamela's
breast. I'd let them work each other over. I'd go to Drew and ask her how
she was ever considered hot and just depress her to where she couldn't fight.
In the end, none of those three would be able to over come the power of the
Tomb Raider, and I'd have Angelina Jolie win. She is so hot, and I don't have
to worry about Pamela's many others, J-Lo just doesn't do it as well as Angelina
does, and Drew just doesn't do it.
Declaration of Independents: You were listed in the PWI Top 500 wrestlers
for 2003. How did that feel for you?
Chasyn Rance: At first, I asked someone who had it if I was in it, and they
said no. I thought I was going to make it this year and when I heard I didn't,
I felt a little depressed. I wake up one morning a few days later, get online
and get bombarded with instant messages congratulating me on making the list.
I call up Mister Saint Laurent and ask him, what happened. He told me I got
listed, and I couldn't believe it. After feeling low for not being on it and
then actually getting on it, it felt tremendous.
Declaration of Independents: What do you plan on doing in the future that
will help you jump up those rankings for 2004?
Chasyn Rance: I plan to be working for a lot more prestigious companies. I
am working for a few now but hope to be working for more soon, and I have
a few other things up my sleeves.
Declaration of Independents: Have you ever done tag team wrestling? If so,
do you prefer it to singles competition?
Chasyn Rance: I have done tag team wrestling. I have fun with it when I do
it, but I rather just keep it singles for right now. Not much to really talk
about on this subject here.
Declaration of Independents: In your opinion, who are the top Indy wrestlers
today? Singles and Tag Team
Chasyn Rance: Singles, Low-Ki', Homicide, Christopher Daniels, and A.J. Styles.
Tag Team, My buddies the S.A.T., Jose and Joel Maximo, are awesome.
Declaration of Independents: If you were not going to be a professional wrestler,
what would you be doing with yourself?
Chasyn Rance: Right now, I'd be enjoying the college life experience a little
more than I am now (if that's possible). But after college, I'd probably do
something in the business management field or real-estate.
Declaration of Independents: Being from Florida, are you a Miami Dolphin fan?
If yes, I am sorry to hear that.
Chasyn Rance: Just because I am from North Miami Beach, I am a Dolphins fan,
but I think I have only been to 1 game ever.
Declaration of Independents: Tell us about the match that 1wrestling.com reported
it was a Florida match of the year candidate.
Chasyn Rance: I enjoyed that match a lot. I was getting a rematch at the SCW
Cruiserweight Championship, which I lost to Kid Lethal. Lethal and I worked
each other about three times before that and had real good matches, and we
were just lucky that someone from 1wrestling.com was there to see how great
we can work together. When I work him, it's my time to be a the heavier wrestler
in the ring, so we have a good time. And as much as the crowd hates me, they
cheered for many thing that we did in the match even when I was killing him
and the finish when I won back the belt.
Declaration of Independents: Take this time to say something to all the fans
who are reading this right now.
Chasyn Rance: Just keep supporting independent wrestling and realize that
we do a lot for the fans and their respect and admiration is much appreciated.
Declaration of Independents: Thank you for taking the time to do this interview.
Best wishes on a bright future.
