Becky
Bayless

The
MiC: Being a product of the doghouse, what can you say about your
relationship with Homicide, and what did you learn about the business
from there?
Becky Bayless: I can’t say enough good things about Homicide, as a
trainer, a wrestler, and a person. This is not an easy business to
be in, but training with him has helped me deal with it, both mentally
and physically. Honestly, I don’t know if I would have been able to
stick in it without his help and support. As far as the Doghouse,
everyone there is like family, the guys (and girl LOL) that I trained
with are like brothers (and a sister) to me.
The
MiC: What wrestlers were you a fan of growing up? Now? (WWE/indies
whatever) What women were you a fan of growing up? Now? (WWE/indies
whatever)
Becky
Bayless: Shawn Michaels was the reason I wanted to get into wrestling
in the first place. The way he could captivate and entertain a crowd
was amazing to me, and watching him made me know this was what I wanted
to do with my life. Ric Flair and Curt Hennig were another 2 of my
favorites. As far as the girls, there weren’t many around when I was
growing up, but Sensational Sherri was THE woman as far as I was concerned.
She was tough and loud and had a presence. I’ve also been a fan of
Tammy Sytch’s since her Smoky Mountain days, and loved to watch Nancy
Sullivan.
Honestly, I haven’t watched too much WWE lately (I train on Thursday
nights!) but I do enjoy watching Shane Helms, Spanky/Brian Kendrick,
Dawn Marie, Molly Holly, Jacqueline, Victoria, and Trish Stratus,
because not only is she hot, but it’s obvious how hard she works to
improve her wrestling, and I respect that.
There are so many people on the indies right now that I enjoy watching.
Homicide (of course! LOL), da Hit Squad, the DRS, Deranged, A.J. Styles,
Joey Matthews, Alexis Laree and C.M. Punk, just to name a few.
The
MiC: We have seen Becky Bayless in many promotions from USA Pro from
JAPW to ROH. What are your favorite promotions to work for? Least
favorite?
Becky
Bayless: My favorite promotion to work in, by far, is USA Pro. Frank
Goodman has given me a great opportunity to be a manager rather than
a valet (yes, there is a difference), and to put me in the middle
of a huge angle and show what I can do, and I will always be grateful
to him for that. I also enjoy working for ROH, it’s a very professional
environment to work in, and the talent there is amazing.
My least favorite promotion to work for is anywhere that the promoter
doesn’t show respect to the workers and the fans, or a promotion where
the inmates run the asylum.
The
MiC: The wedding angle that was run at the 4/4 USA Show, with Kruel
is one of the most talked about angles in USA history. What was it
like being the center of attention for a whole show and "getting married"
in front of live, loud audience?
Becky
Bayless: The whole angle was awesome to do. I loved doing it from
start to finish because the crowd was so into it and it got such a
reaction.
The
MiC: What do you feel about message board posters, who post vicious
rumors and spread negative and false information about you?
Becky
Bayless: Wow. Where do I start? The first word that comes to mind
is “pathetic.” First off, there is no doubt in my mind that these
posts come from inside the business rather then from fans, and that’s
sad to me. To me, that is not the professional, nor adult way to deal
with someone if you have a problem with them. Anyone who knows me
knows that I am a very understanding, open person, and if someone
has a problem with me, I am easy enough to get in touch with, either
through the e-mail on my site or at shows. Spreading lies about me
certainly isn’t the way to deal with whatever animosity you have toward
me, actually, I believe that’s the way junior high school girls act
when they are jealous of another girl who stole their boyfriend or
something. So whoever you are, male or female, grow some balls and
confront me to my face, or at the very least don’t hide behind a fake
name on a message board. If you aren’t man (or woman) enough to do
that, shut up. I’m here to do my job and entertain fans, not to play
games. Grow up.
The
MiC: How is it being a woman, in a male dominated business? Do you
feel you get treated differently? OR do you feel like "one-of-the-boys"?
Becky
Bayless: It’s tough in some aspects, but also easier in others. For
instance, even if a girl is a wrestler, she will probably spend most
of her time being a manager, therefore less stress on her body. Some
promoters book girls on the basis of looks alone, and there aren’t
many guys I know who get that! It’s hard when some people have the
misconception that a girl is only where she is because of who she’s
dating or who’s dick she’s sucking. And honestly sometimes it’s true.
But the majority of the women I know who are successful in this business
are where they are because of tenacity, training and hard work. And
well, God’s handiwork has prevented me from ever truly being “one
of the boys”, but I definitely feel like I have found my niche and
for the most part get treated like any other worker, male or female.
The
MiC: How is it being a college student and trying to make a name for
yourself in the wrestling business? Do you ever feel like you don't
have time for yourself?
Becky
Bayless: Ever? Always! I think most people outside the wrestling business
underestimate the time wrestling takes out of ones life. It’s a lot
more involved than a couple hours a week working shows. There’s traveling
for hours to get to the shows, going to training and the gym, doing
these interviews (LOL), wrestling takes up most of my time. And then
I go to college full-time, so I have to balance my classes, homework,
papers and tests with all that. But no one forced wrestling on me,
this is what I chose to do, and to me it’s worth having to trade going
to a club with the girls on the weekend, or sleeping, or whatever
it is normal people do in their spare time.
The
MiC: Who has been your favorite wrestler to manage? Your least favorite?
Becky
Bayless: My favorite wrestler to manage was Kruel. On the indies managers
and valets get thrown around a lot, and Kruel was the first person
I worked with consistently and actually had he chance to do an angle
with. He’s also a true professional, in addition to being a good guy.
I honestly don’t have a person in mind that I didn’t enjoy working
with. Everyone I’ve worked with has been great, and actually if I
had to pick one, I would pick the Dirty Rotten Scoundralz (SURPRISE)
for no other reason then they really didn’t need me out there to help
get them over, they are good enough at that on their own.
The
MiC: Can you comment on the LIPS mission in SSCW?
Becky
Bayless: LOL. Yes, it’s over.
The
MiC: What's a typical day in the life of Becky Bayless?
Becky
Bayless: I can give you today, which was kind of boring, but probably
a good example of my life. Today was Thursday. I woke up, showered,
ate breakfast, took the train to school, went to class, took the train
home, ate lunch, drove to training, trained, drove to the tanning
salon, tanned, drove home, ate dinner, and now I’m on AOL, doing this
interview, and procrastinating in doing my homework. Sad as it is,
that’s a normal day for me! Days I work shows are usually a lot more
fun.
The
MiC: What people have helped you in your career?
Becky
Bayless: Many people have helped me, some by helping me train, giving
me good advice, critiquing my matches, namely Homicide, the Scoundralz,
Deranged, Frank Goodman, Dan Kowal, Cynthia Fulle, Bobcat, Dawn Marie,
Simon Diamond and Julio Dinero, but that’s just a few. And this may
sound lame, but it’s true…the fans help me. Everytime someone asks
for my autograph or a picture with me I am shocked and don’t understand
why they want it, but I hope that means they enjoy my work, and that
makes it worth it. I’m not exactly becoming a millionaire here, so
the enjoyment and gratification I get out of entertaining people makes
it well worth my time.
The
MiC: Are you a fan of midget wrestling?
Becky
Bayless: I’m a fan of anyone who takes the time and effort to learn
how to wrestle properly. And I’m not exactly a giant myself! LOL
The
MiC: What do you have to say to fans who criticize you?
Becky
Bayless: LOL, I’ve never had a fan come up to me and criticize me!
If they did, that’s fine, everyone is entitled to opinions. I’m not
perfect, and actually, if there’s something I can do better, I want
to hear about it.
The
MiC: (Open Floor , plug anything you want) What do you have to say
to anyone reading this?
Becky
Bayless: Thanks for taking the time to read this, I know I babble.
It was actually fun to do and a good forum to respond to some of the
so-called “controversy.” Visit the website…www.beckybayless.com, sign
the guestbook, and keep coming to shows! Mwah!.
