What's up everyone and welcome to this big McInterview. This time I interviewed CZW's Best of the Best III winner, B-Boy. B-Boy has really started coming into his own on the east coast, as he's had great matches not only for CZW, but for JAPW and JCW as well. B-Boy originally from the west coast, is looking to break out even more so in the northeast. Find out everything you need to know about B-Boy in this interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You started making a name for yourself in wrestling by working for CCW (California) before moving onto other SoCal promotions such as UPW and RevPro. How did you get into the pro wrestling business, who were your trainers, and what did you consider your home promotion when you first started?
B-Boy: Well I've always been a fan of wrestling in general, to be quite honest it was my mother that got me hooked on wrestling.. It was the days when murdoch was working dusty or old NWA stuff and from there, I always wanted to become a wrestler. Someone was passing out flyers at an wrestling event out here in san diego for a wrestling school and I called it up the next day and trained the following week. My first couple of trainers were at the school where I started at, some guys that people never heard of, the names were Rich Frisk and Cory van Kleek I've also learned from Tom Howard and the other trainers at UPW at the time as well. Well considering I've always been a indy worker so I really didn't have a home promotion, but when I first started I would say it was CCW. (California Championship Wrestling)
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You started your career on the west coast. What one match do you think got promoters from the east coast to start booking you here?
B-Boy: Ummm to be quite honest I really wouldn't know what to tell you, I know with CZW I gave them a tape and kept being persistant to give me a chance and on that tape was various matches with Super Dragon and Spanky and some others that aren't at the top of my head. So if I was gonna say if any matches got me booked on the east coast it would have to be from that tape.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What exactly does the "B" in B-Boy stand for? Does it represent anything from the breakdancing streets of Cali?
B-Boy: You hit it right on the nail right there micky mic... I use to be in the whole B-Boy philosophy of living considering I use to breakdance on the streets, I use to play around on turntables, use to do graffiti all the time and once in a while rhyme even though I suck, I loved being a B-Boy so I decided to transferred what I loved to what I love now ya know.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have an up and down relationship with Super Dragon. What are your thoughts on Super Dragon and what matches that you have had with him would you recommend?
B-Boy: Up and Down...not really, we get along fine. We don't see eye to eye with each other sometimes but I mean who does ya know. Some stuff that I like from me and dragon is the finals of the Jcup this year....I like our 2001 match too from MPW out in cali as well.. Most of our stuff I've been please with, we just kinda click in the ring so usually most of our matches gel together.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How does the wrestling in the west coast differ from wrestling here on the east coast? What are the similarities and differences, in terms of fans, politics and interest?
B-Boy: Politics are everywhere...so can't really go anywhere where there isn't. In terms of similarites I think the amount of talent cali has can match the talent on the east coast. Differences are a diffrent story cause in california, a show can't draw more than like 500 and out on the east coast there are like 3-4 that can draw that and more, so I guess on the east coast, wrestling is more loved out there. In terms of fans, you of course got the idiot fans that think they know wrestling and criticize everything and try to get under your skin then you have those fans that go out and love wrestling and appreciate everything you do, I think there are those two type of fans everywhere in any promotion.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think has been the best match of your career?
B-Boy: Best match is hard to say. I've liked certain matches of my career but can't really say what's been my best match. I guess that would be up to the fans if anything to decide what's been my best match.. Some matches that come to my head is my series with Hero over at IWA that I loved. Some of me and homicide tag matches have been good. Super Dragon and myself has been a good little rivalry and there has been others, but can't really remember...haha
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Alot of people have called you the "west coast Homicide". Obviously that is a compliment, but is that a fair statement?
B-Boy: West Coast Homicide?? Cide and myself talk and laugh about that all the time. I mean we look alike, we dress alike, hell we even work somewhat similar, not the same but similar. I guess the misconception is that we look so much alike that we wrestle the same. Yeah we do kick, yeah we do strikes, yeah we have a "I don't give a fuck" type mentality...but there are differences as well and that's where people don't see. There has been people saying that I ripped off cide and his gimmick and all that, to be completely honest they can go fuck themselves cause I was doing my thing on the west and he was doing his thing on the east and when we finally met it was like long lost brothers meeting for the first time.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your thoughts on Teddy Hart?
B-Boy: Teddy is a character I'll tell you that. Another thing is that guy is smart, Everyone loves controversy and everytime Teddy wrestles, people don't know what to expect and he is good what he does. Outside the ring I don't know, I think sometimes he tries to work everybody and that is something I dont' agree with cause it causes situations to arise and situations shouldn't happen in the first place.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You started your career off around guys such as Samoa Joe, The Havana Pitbulls (Los Cubancitos), Frankie Kazarian and other top indy names. What was it like working with such a high level of talent early on in your career?
B-Boy: All those guys you mention I go a long way with. All of them are my friends and there has been times where I've worked with each and everyone of them at least like 5-6 times. You know no one knows there future in the sport and each one these guys put in there effort and dedication to become what they have become. I couldn't be happier for these guys cause these were the guys that also helped me become a wrestler and also got me noticed from matches I've had with them. Working with them is always a pleasure and working in the future with them will be a pleasure too. Ah the good ol' days huh?
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What person in wrestling would you just like to slap in the face?
B-Boy: What person? hmmm it's a good question...I guess it's promoters that don't treat their talent good ya know. Promoters sometimes feel they can take advantage of workers and shit like that, like they own them. Some people just don't get it and it makes me want to slap them in the face.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You recently went to the finals of this years JCW J-Cup. What was it like participating in that tournament and do you feel like you got anything out of it?
B-Boy: The Jcup was fun... I had good matches throughout the tourney so I couldn't be any happier. My whole deal is if I work for a new promotion I never worked with before I wanna do my best, so I can come back. To be completely honest I just hope to get more bookings out of the situation. Plus it was fun too.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Obviously, CZW, is your home promotion here on the east coast. What is it like working there and what is it like being one of the top names in an international promotion such as CZW?
B-Boy: CZW is fun man. It's a family, it seriously is probably the most tightest locker room I've ever been in. CZW is always fun when I go out...everyone puts in their best effort to get over the show ya know, it's a team promotion instead of an individual type of company. Ya know it's funny, I would never think John would push me the way he is in the company and it's makes me feel good that he does ya know.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Being a bicoastal wrestler, who do you think is better 2Pac or Biggie?
B-Boy: To be quite honest I like both, but this is what I usually tell people. Biggie has beats that can move ya, and 2pac has lyrics that move you.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You won the PWG Tag Team Titles with Homicide. What was it like teaming up with Homicide, a wrestler that alot of fans compare you to? What are your thoughts on the Notorious 187?
B-Boy: I love tagging with Homicide, we just click so well in a ring it's seriously ridiculous. Homicide is one of the top guys out there right now and he's so good that when you tag with him, you learn. Homicide is my boy too out of wrestling so I mean we party and shit like that when we together too. He's a natural good guy ya know, definitely a guy you want on your side. I wouldn't wanna be on the opposing side of him if he's mad.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What championship in your career, that you have won, has meant the most?
B-Boy: To be honest probably best of the best last year. John gave me the oppertunity to shine and I took it ya know. I've never won a tournament too I don't believe, so that was very very cool to do.
I
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: f NWA TNA and ROH offered you a contract at the same time, which promotion would you lean for?
B-Boy: You know I guess it would be how they would use me ya know. I would't wanna be treated like some of the guys were treated at WWE and shit. I like the product that ROH runs and it's more my style, but I wouldn't mind on being on tv as well. I guess it would be how they would use me if anything.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You are in this years Best of The Best. What can we expect this year, considering that you've already won it once?
B-Boy: Well best of the best is a good tournament and it's different from others. This year the contestants are stacked in the tourney, I mean stacked. This year I think will be better than last due to the entry's in this year and there should be some good surprises and stuff like that. It's one of CZW's biggest and best shows so it should be good.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have done some work for JAPW. What is it like working there?
B-Boy: I like Frank and Ray, I definitely wanna come back asap. Locker Room was awesome and the guys were cool as shit. Not to mention the after party's ...BREATHLESS BABY!!!!, but I mean Frank and Ray take care of there boys man, they have a good product and I mean it's a hot promotion right now. I loved working there and I hope to be back soon. I've been talking to Frank and Ray so I'll be there again, just not know when.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What is your favorite type of alcohol, and has too much alcohol ever left you breathless?
B-Boy: Umm I'm a big beer fan I also like hard shit as well. I guess what ever has to get me drunk. There hasn't been many occasions that left me breathless but there has been many occasions where i don't know where I'm at.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who are your favorite opponents?
B-Boy: Favorite opponents? I would say, Super Dragon, Chris Hero, Samoa Joe, Frankie Kazarian, X Foundation, Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley.. there is so more but I'm so bad to remembering shit.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have a strong following in CZW. What are your thoughts on those fans?
B-Boy: CZW fans are good. Spoiled but good. I'm really surprised on the following I have there to be quite honest. I'm one of the most simple wrestlers there ya know and It boggles my mind how they react when the music hits and the wrestling happens and the crowd goes nuts.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What matches have you had in CZW do you think are your best?
B-Boy: There has been a couple that I've really liked. I like me and everytime Jimmy Rave has worked. I like the 4 way that me/maff/shelley/strong worked. Umm the match me and Jay Briscoe worked and when me/acid worked maff/cide.... those come to mind right now..
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What wrestlers are you a fan of?
B-Boy: I've always been a fan of Joe, I think it's awesome to see a big guy actually work ya know. I like seeing the pitbulls and x foundation tag. On the east I like Homicide and Maff work and the Briscoes tag up. There is just so much talent everywhere you can't get enough of seeing guys work ya know... someone that I've been real impressed with is Jay Lethal on the east and Scott Lost on the west.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What wrestlers do you think suck?
B-Boy: I think guys don't suck some just have the natural talent and some don't... can't get mad or criticize guys for trying.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What promotions haven't you wrestled for would you like to get into?
B-Boy: Ummm I would like to work out on the east alot more for diffrent promotions... I would say roh but they got me booked on the 17th... but some are like USApro and ICW and some stuff out of ny is possible.. definitely wanna hit up jersey feds too along with maybe tna.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What made you choose the shining wizard as a finisher?
B-Boy: You know everyone says that the wizard is what's hot not and shit like that, i honestly like it cause it just fits me. I'm not heavyweight and can't pick up like 240 lbs... i needed something that would suit me so that's why I picked it...plus i think it's a awesome move to use anytime and use it anyway and if done right can look like you kill someone.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your opinions on the internet's role in wrestling?
B-Boy: Some are good some are bad... the good parts is reviews and knowing what fans think, plus the internet gets attention of promoters as well. Bad side is sometimes criticism from fans are what gets workers to hate fans.... it's one thing to have an opinon but blantly try to demoralize someone is ridiculous.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You won the Best of the Best last year against Sonjay Dutt in the finals. Would you consider that your biggest moment in wrestling up to this point?
B-Boy: As of right now yes it probably is
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Would you like to wrestle more on the northeast?
B-Boy: Like I said before I there is still some places I would wanna work. I just like to work so everyone who wants me to work i'll work ya know.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What is your dream match?
B-Boy: You know I'm just happy wrestling matches alone. I never wanna do a dream match
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your career goals?
B-Boy: I'm really content right now with just wrestling and traveling, one goal that i really want is to go to 4 diffrent countries to wrestle. I already have two under my belt with Italy and Germany so now i want England and Japan. So hopefully sooner than later I get to.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you want to say to anyone reading this?
B-Boy: I just wanna say thanks to everyone that has helped me, workers/fans/promoters... I mean everything is appreciated and be on a look out for a website and I'm getting shirts done too, so help out a muhfucka!!! Buy the shirt!
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Thank your for your time, and good luck in your future matches.
