Hasheem "Chemical" Ali

What up boys and girls and welcome to another McInterview. Today I interviewed Hasheem "Chemical" Ali. Ali has mostly been working for NWS in his career. Ali has been the subject of some criticism due to playing a terrorist sympathesizer. He has feuded mainly against The Patriot for the past year in the NWS. NWS is probably a promotion that most fans of this site haven't checked out, due to NWS offering a product for families not internet fans. NWS runs anywhere from 50 shows per year, and continue to draw consistently. Hasheem is part of NWS's success as he has been one of the top names for some time. Hasheem talks about working for NWS, his controversial character, breaking out, and more. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Before I start I would like to began with: “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All Praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Beneficent, the Merciful, Owner of the Day of Judgment. Thee alone we worship and Thee alone we ask for help. Show us the straight path, the path of those whom Thou hast favoured, not (the path of) those who earn Thine anger nor (of) those who go astray. Amen!” (The Opening Chapter of the Holy Qur’an)

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Why did you want to get into pro wrestling?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: As a child, my grandfather was the biggest wrestling fan around. He would take my cousins, brothers, and I to see the original NWA every Monday they were in town. I grew up watching the legends like Flair, Rhodes, Steamboat, and the others superstars. Fast forward to college, the semester before my senior year. I had not watch wrestling in a while, I had nothing to do, and so I turn the TV to WCW at the suggestion of my roommate. That was at the time I was planning to not play football at the university any more, but turn pro. Then, we flipped the TV to WWF RAW and Stone Cold was cursing, flipping the middle finger, and drinking beer. I feel in love with wrestling all over again. My roommate state to me that I was just like Austin and no football coach would tolerate my bad attitude and he was right. My first and only try out went bad, but I had made my mind up on what to do next.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: I studied what the guys on TV was doing and placed calls to the Power plant and House of Hardcore, but did not have the money for those schools. After, I move from NC to NJ. I had heard about Iron Mike Sharpe’s wrestling school but never knew where to go. Dennis Carlozo and a couple of others took nine hundred dollars from me, with the promise that I would train before shows and with big time stars. I was given the directions to Iron Mike’s and skewed out of my money.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What was your training like?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Not to be disrespectful, but I caught on fast to wrestling. Sharpe would ask me have I ever done this before, from time to time. The real training come from listening to him tell stories about the business and the ups and downs of his career. I got the most from the late night talk with him.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You currently work for NWS. What is it like there?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Just like any job you have days that you do not want to go to work, but you do and make the most of the day. Most of the time it is great. I think we get a bad press for the same things that other promotions do. NWS biggest crime according to some is providing family entertainment, what is wrong with that.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You are one of the most hated wrestlers today. How does that feel?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: First for the people that hate, you hate for what reason a gimmick. You can kiss my Black Ass. All I ever hear is that I am the most hated wrestlers. That is getting old fast. I really do not care any more. At first, I did not like being hated until I found out that other wrestlers hated me and other promoters hated me. That is when I got over being hated. I discovered that the people that bought tickets do not hate me. I was never like in this business from day one. I do the “gimmick” for my own reasons, not to get cheep heat. I was getting the same type heat before the “gimmick.” But the marks would never know that because they never came to NWS shows. No one and I mean no one tells me what say or how to be me. So, how does it feel, GREAT!!!

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Do you feel that the Hasheem “Chemical” Ali character, coupled in with Mohoward Gottheheaves al-getz are corny characters?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: No, but I find the way we are used is corny, but that is no secret. Hasheem Ali was not created by NWS it is my Muslim name and my original wrestling name. NWS add “Chemical” to the name. I don’t think that it’s corny; I think that it’s misused. That part I have very little say.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Do you think that Mohoward Gottheheaves al-getz and Hasheem “Chemical” Ali characters get a bad rap for no reason at all? Can you explain who came up with the gimmick and what you feel about the criticism or praise that you receive for it?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: I feel we get a bad rap because we do the gimmick for NWS. People in the world of pro wrestling tend to group wrestlers with the promoters that they work for together. If I have a bad rap because I speak what I feel, then too bad. What “Chemical”Ali says is what I feel and that comes from my religious side. The NWS creative team presented the gimmick to me. I did not like the criticism that I could not work and I was fishing for attention to get notice. I like the praise I get from those who like the gimmick. Not for doing the gimmick, but how I do the gimmick. I like it when fan stand up for at shows when I come out from behind the curtain. When the fans chant USA so loud I can’t hear myself breath that is all the praise I need.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Would you want to wrestle elsewhere outside of NWS? If so, would you want to do the same gimmick?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Yes, I would love to work for other promotions. I think it depends on the promotion and the promoter, and if Chemical Ali fits in there.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What’s your favorite beer?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Honey Brown, Bud, and Colt 45

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Who are your favorite opponents to wrestle?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: The Patriot, The late great Jerry Tuite aka The Wall, and Fred Sampson. I enjoy every match if I can.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Who would you rather hang out with Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: Britney Spears hands down.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What do you think has been the best match in you career?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: There are several off the top of my head. My first match ever because I did as well as I expected myself to do. All my matches with The Wall were huge. He was the first name to give me a shot to prove myself. My first match with Big Vito, because of the praise that I received after the match. The Patriot and I have had some great matches.

Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: What has been your favorite moment in wrestling?

Hasheem "Chemical" Ali: It is getting that ring every weekend and doing what I love the most, besides God and family.
