CHAMPION VS CHAMPION & TITLE vs TITLE Match Signed For 3/19 at ICW
After defeating Sumie Sakai at EVOLVE's 3/13 event in Rahway, NJ, WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez will get no rest. Mercedes Martinez has been challenged by WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage and the match will take place on 3/19 at ICW.
This is an interesting match. In the three year history of WSU, these two wrestlers have faced off twice before. In both matches, Mercedes Martinez was World champion. However, for the first time ever, Brittney Savage brings the Spirit Championship to the dance and also brings a brand new attitude. Technically, this is a "first-time" ever match, as Mercedes Martinez & Brooke Carter (Savage's former name, before renouncing her ring-name for her real-life name) have done battle, but Mercedes Martinez has never faced "Brittney Savage".
WSU is all about unpredictability and giving the fans what they want. For the first time ever in WSU history, we will have a title vs title match, as WSU commissioner Dawn Marie ruled that if Brittney wants a shot at Martinez's title, then Brittney should put her money where her mouth is and put up her own championship!
WSU is all about doing big things, and where else than New York City to deliver this first time ever match in WSU! To make matters even more interesting, Martinez currently co-holds 1/2 of the WSU Tag Team Championships with Angel Orsini. Can Martinez become the first women ever in professional wrestling to hold three championships at the same time in one company?
March 19th can be a historic night for Martinez as she looks to hold all the gold in WSU. However, Mercedes Martinez re-aggravated her right shoulder against Sumie Sakai at Evolve this past Friday night, the same shoulder that she had surgery on 3 years ago and actually dislocated again last year. Martinez writhed in pain the whole match and was not 100%. However, being a true champion, Martinez gritted and grinded out the match and was able to capitalize on the one mistake Sumie made to win the match.
Brittney Savage, a former WSU Tag Champion and now a 2-time WSU Spirit Champion, looks to join her former partner, Alicia, as the second person in WSU history to become a WSU Triple Crown Winner. We've seen the former Brooke Carter transform into a completely different person ever since blindsiding and turning her back on Alicia in October of 2009.
Savage looks driven and more motivated than ever before. Savage, who was actually voted a Runner-Up in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's "Rookie of the Year" awards, which means out of the thousands of wrestlers who debuted this year in the wrestling world, Savage was head & shoulders above 99% of them, could follow her freshman year in the business with the ultimate prize in womens wrestling- the WSU World Title.
Martinez has beaten Brooke Carter twice before, but has never faced the devious Brittney Savage. With a busted shoulder, Martinez is going into this match at a huge disadvantage. Can Savage seize this opportunity and become World Champion? Or will Mercedes Martinez do the unthinkable and unbelievable, and hold every single championship in WSU?
Either way, March 19th at ICW, history will be made in the biggest city in the world. Come join us at ICW to witness the very best in womens professional wrestling.
