Being around the wrestling business since I was a teenager, I can tell you that there aren't many people who are universally known for their class, creativity, and loyalty. Doug Gentry was one of those rare people. I met Doug when I was 14 after ordering the first Best Of Sabu tape. Being I was a teenager and a huge mark naturally I thought Doug, along with RF and Eric Gargiullo, had the coolest jobs and I wanted in. After being a real pain for a few months, they gave me a job helping staple video tape catalogues and even got me a gig working at the ECW arena. Matter of fact, after one of my first nights of pretending to sweep, I had the privilege of watching Doug as the Jersey Devil take on Tony "The Hitman" Stetson. Though Doug wasn't a full time wrestler, his great mind enabled him to get over in the ECW Arena in 1995, which was no small feat.
In 1998, the original Wrestling Shop opened up at Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philly, and Doug, Rob and Eric once again looked out for me and gave me a job. It was through these opportunities that I was able to get into the wrestling business. As I got older, I would still see Doug at shows, except now I was working. I would always ask him to watch whatever match or segment I was in, so I could pick his brain afterward. Any criticisms he may have had, were always constructive, and having such a good mind for the business made Doug a great source for advice. Doug meant so much to so many different people. He truly was everybody's friend, and stood by his best friends like a brother. I'll always be grateful for the good laughs we shared, great ideas he had, and good advice he gave me. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
