When I got the call on my lunch break at work about the passing of Doug, I was in total shock, just as I’m sure everyone else in the wrestling world was. It’s always hard to see someone go, but for it to be someone like Dough, so young, so loved, and so humble, it breaks my heart. I was lucky enough to work with Doug a few years ago on a fairly consistent basis for the better part of a year. Ever time I would get the call to do some video work, I ALWAYS hoped that I wouldn’t be alone and would be working with Doug. I was lucky enough for him to share a lot of his stories from years ago, and share some of his trade secrets with me to help make me better at my job. It’s always an honor when someone would share their secrets when it comes to a specific profession. Doug didn’t haven’t to, he wanted to. There was always one thing though that bothered me, and probably will to this day. Doug was never recognized for his contributions to this business in the manner that he should be. Sure everyone knows that he is the “mad scientist” of RF Video, but does everyone know that it was really Doug’s ideas that put ROH on the map? As other has mentioned he was behind Special K and the scramble cage, two things that really caught the eye of wrestling fans. If it wasn’t for Doug, ROH would not be as successful as it was today. I can tell you too that these were not the only new innovations that Doug had for pro wrestling. Sadly, with his passing he will not be able to revolutionize the sport again. I will always cherish the times that I got to spend with Doug, the stories he shared, the advice he gave me, and the projects we worked on together. I’m heartbroken to know that we won’t be able to get in the car and head to another show together ever again. Godspeed Doug, I miss you and will pray for you every day. I know you are in heaven with the best of the best and I am jealous of what heaven has. It only gives me a reason to work to be more like you, so humble, such a hard worker, loyal to those you loved and always doing what was best for others best interest. I look forward to the day that we can talk again.
