ABC 10/7: Brooklyn Debut Show McReview
What's up everyone and welcome to yet another belated review here on the DOI. This time I'll be quickly giving you the
results & my thoughts on ABC Pro Wrestling's 10/7 event, which was held this past Saturday at Adams Bar & Lounge in Brooklyn,
NY. This was arguably ABC's tightest show and best event in the company's history. The attendance also rivaled ABC's numbers
from 2003 (When Indy Wrestling was arguably hotter than then it is today). That was a positive fact for ABC as it seems that
everything is on the rise, and hopefully at ABC's next show on 12/16, everything will be clicking on all cylinders in what
should be ABC's largest crowd yet. But before I get ahead of myself, here's the review of this show:
ABC Wrestling
10/7
Refs: Hanson & Zack
Ring Announcer: Jerry Fitzwater
Attendance: 125+
Commentators for DVD: LC Queenz & Billy Reil
Archadia d. The Grim Reefer
This was a good clean match that got the crowd pumped early. Reefer, who could be a great indy main event heel if given the
chance, nailed some one liners on some random hecklers. These two, who are no strangers to each other, had a pretty good
outing, with Archadia winning this time around. Good opening match here.
"Ultra-Sexy" Joe So Delicious d. Don Tito w/Tina Marie
Don Tito introduced the crowd to his latest femme, Tina Marie. The crowd didn't seem to mind her at all. These two, who
wrestled at the last show, elevated their game here, as both were able to counter and counter-counter each other's offense.
During the match, Mr. Big came out to scout. Unlike last time, Joe was able to pin Tito, to even up the score at 1-1 between
these two.
Not a bad match here, and it's good to see different talent and not the same faces on every show.
After the match, Mr. Big broke up a postmatch fight and offered his services to both men. Big promised that Tito & Joe would
be the new ABC Tag Team Champs. Tito & Marie agreed to have Mr. Big in their corner, while Joe was kind of reluctant.
Antonio Thomas d. Danny Demanto
This was a much better match than I thought it would be. Thomas really looked good in this match and looked like what you
thought a wrestler should look like. Danny did good heeling up the crowd and getting the fans into Antonio. This was a very
competitively wrestled match, with Antonio picking up the pinfall for the 1-2-3 victory.
Good ABC debut match for Thomas, and a good showing for Demanto against an ex-WWE guy.
For the ABC PW Tag Team Titles
(c) Bison Bravado/Monsta Mack d. The Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz
PREMATCH: It seems the Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz got a leg-up before the match even happened, as the DRS sabotaged the ABC
DJ/music guy. As Bison came out, some gay love song by Usher played. This might've backfired in the DRS's face, as it only
riled up Bison and made him madder. Monsta Mack, Bison's partner in ABC, said that even though he can't stand Bison, he hates
the DRS more. The DRS then came out and razzed the crowd before the physicality began.
This was DRS's first match in NY in 2 plus years. KC Blade showed a bit ring-rust at times, but still put out an enjoyable
performance. This was a very good tag team match, which showed that if done right, tag team wrestling can still get over.
Mack picked up the win for his team after the frogsplash.
After the match, Mack & Bison gloated about their victory, although it was clear that they still weren't on the same page.
Antonio Thomas came out and blasted Bison in the back with a chair. Before Mack could really enjoy Bison's demise, Thomas
blasted Mack. Mack was busted up hardway. Thomas then challenged Mack/Bison to a tag title match at ABC's next show, as the
Heartbreakers have challenged Bison/Mack. When they got up, the feuding tag team champions have seemed to put their
differences aside as a result of Thomas's actions & words. Mack was busted open legit in two places, but a doctor gave him
the ok not to miss any time. Bison/Mack vs The Heartbreakers should be a rough match in December.
Mack Daddy Flexx d. Jay Static w/ABC Champion Nick Berk
PREMATCH: Nick Berk introduced his latest protege, Jay Static. Berk said that Static teamed with him in WWE and that Static
was his hand picked guy to get rid of Flexx in ABC.
This was another solid match on this show between two guys who don't really get much exposure on the indy scene. Both
delivered here. Berk interefered from time-to-time in this match, as it was obvious that Berk wanted to make sure that his
number 1 contender, Mack Daddy Flexx, will have no chance of being able to compete against Berk on a future show. However,
despite Berk helping Static throughout the match, Flexx was able to put Static away with his brute strength, picking up the
clean pinfall victory.
After the match, Berk & Static jumped Flexx. The debuting Slyck Wagner Brown made the save. Slyck announced since Static is
Berk's righthand man and knew that Static would try to interfere in his heavyweight title match, Flexx would be in his corner
later on in the show.
INTERMISSION
Found out the Game 4 score. Very depressing.
Jimmy Hustler/Bad Billy Walker d. Eclipse (Jay Delta & Xander Page) w/Jack O'Hearts
Hustler & Walker were the hometown heroes here, but I think the crowd only knew who Jimmy was. I thought this match went a
bit too long, but it as fine for what it was. Hustler & Walker pick up the win here.
Billy Reil came out to address the crowd and talk about being in and out of wrestling for the last 4 years. A fan heckled
Billy about his past during Reil's promo. Billy challenged the fan to a fight and to put his money where his mouth was. Billy
then recoginized the fan as a student wrestler, Joey Rizzo, from Philadelphia. Billy said he was booked on this show to do
commentary while this student paid to watch Billy. Billy told the student wrestler if he wanted to be booked so badly, he'd
teach him a lesson at ABC's next show on 12/16.
A good quick way to set up a match on the next show. Billy looked to be in great shape physically, and we'll see if he's the
Billy Reil of old or just the old Billy Reil on 12/16.
Mercedes Martinez d. Danny Demanto
Before the match, Mercedes said that every girl was ducking her in ABC, bringing up how Alicia is too scared to wrestle
Mercedes whereever she goes. Mercedes said she wanted real competition whether it be females or males. Danny answered her
challenge, pulling double duty, in hopes of finding his first ABC PW victory.
This was another good match. Both athletes hit each other pretty hard in this match and teased several false finishes. This
match pitted the undefeated Mercedes against the always defeated Danny Demanto, and that trend continued here, as Mercedes
powerbombed Danny through a table to earn the pinfall win.
Mercedes continues to rise in ABC. Despite losing both of his matches, Danny looked good and both of his opponents looked
better for it.
VPW Showcase Match
DC Diamond d. LI Kid, JMS & Chopsaw
This was a match that I thought went too long. The problem with student matches is that they unfortunately look like
students. At least it was sandwiched between the two bigger matches of the show, rather than starting off the show on a not-
so-high note. This match wasn't terrible but it also didn't fit in with the other bouts on the card. Hopefully sharing a
locker room with some of the other guys on the show will motivate these wrestlers to look like wrestlers, as it is obvious
that they want to be in the sport. Now it's just time to look the part.
For the ABC Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship
A Special Lights-Out Match
(c) Nick Berk w/Jay Static d. Slyck Wagner Brown w/Mack Daddy Flexx to retain the championship in a wild 20 minute plus bout.
This might've been the best match in ABC history. Despite the sun coming down and the moonlight shining on the ring,
(Yea this show was outside, but ABC got lucky with no rain, as it was a nice day) these two guys went 20 minutes or so and
had the crowd awaiting the next move. Slyck busted out all his trademark offense, as Berk did everything he could to fend
Slyck off. Eventually, Berk was able to get a pin out of nowhere, as Slyck looked like he was about to become the new
champion.
POSTMATCH: Slyck & Flexx brawled with Static & Berk but it was broken up. Slyck & Flexx then challenged Berk & Static to a
tag team match on 12/16.
Final McWord
I thought this was a very good show from top-to-bottom. Every wrestler worked hard and many angles were continued and furthered. The in-ring work was great all night, as there wasn't a bad match on the show, aside from the student match which wasn't expected to live up to the other matches on the show.
My favorite matches on the show were the main event, Mercedes/Danny & the tag title match. The opening match delivered in the number 1 hole on the show. Antonio was better than I thought, although Mack might see otherwise.
Here are some quick ABC notes:
ABC is trying hard to showcase the art of tag team wrestling on the next show. There will be no tournaments or anything, but with teams like DRS, Joe/Tito, Bison/Mack, The Heart Throbs, coupled in with the main event guys such as Berk/Static & Slyck/Static, tag team wrestling is alive & thriving.
ABC officials were very happy with Slyck Wagner Brown on this show, as he has looked much better than he has in the past. Look for Slyck to be a fixture on future ABC shows. Ditto Antonio Thomas.
Billy Reil made his ABC 2006 debut as a commentator. Billy will be given a chance at ABC's 12/16 show, as Billy has vowed to be on top of his game. We'll find out for sure then.
ABC is very impressed with Mercedes Martinez, although she looks to be running out of opponents, as she's dominated the competition. Look for her to have a high profile match next show.
ABC is very happy with the current roster as there is a good mix of guys. Look for ABC to continue to have a diverse roster in the future.
Joel Gertner was backstage at the show, and looking in good shape. Look for his MXW to pick up in the future.
There were tons of backstage promos cut for the DVD version of this show. You won't want to miss these promos, especially Monsta Mack's.
Overall
The best ABC show to date. Every ABC match on the show was solid. The worst part about this show was that the crowd wasn't as
loud as past NY crowds.
The show will be available in the DOI Video section. ABC's next event will be on 12/16 in Brooklyn, NY. Stay tuned for more
info on the venue location, as ABC will be announcing details soon.
